Burning For You: Hot & Cold

Burning for You by author Berengaria Brown was hot enough to cause its own fire, forget the planned fire drill that brings this threesome together. During an evacuation drill from their office building, Blair, Alex and Kurt find themselves flirting unabashedly. A simple invite to soak in Kurt’s hot tub leads to some steamy moments between all three characters. I’m not sure there wasn’t any configuration they ignored.

With only 41 pages, it was difficult for the author to pull off a strong development of feelings between the characters. Readers are told that they come to form a lasting bond but I never felt the connection. The sex scenes seemed simply that – just sex. When reading romance (even erotica), I crave the connection. Never coming to know the characters deeper than Blair’s love for shoes and the men’s love for Blair’s body left me cold.

Now, to be fair, I knew I was reading one of Torquere Press’s Single Shots and am aware short stories often leave me unfulfilled. You might like this as a simple sexy read – just don’t expect great depth.
