Nexi Jones—part witch, part guardian, and wannabe kick-ass warrior—can’t throw a punch or conjure the simplest magic. But when a vampire paints a bull’s-eye on Nexi’s back, she’s hard-pressed to deny Kyden and the help he’s offering. Even if it means getting her revenge will be a little bit harder. At least it will still be as sweet.
This story was previously published elsewhere under the title The Willow in 2010, and has been revised and expanded for Entangled Publishing.
Review:
Nexi is just your average, normal, human, until one night when her world is turned upside down and she finds out she isn't as normal as she thought she was...and she isn't human. Finding out your part guardian, part witch would be difficult for anyone to deal with but throw in a hot guy in a kilt who thinks he is the boss of you and I can totally understand Nexi's attitude.
Nexi's favorite word for Kyden, caveman, could not have been a more perfect description of him. And while she knew it came from a place of love it still, rightly, drove her crazy. But I have to say that Kyden's protective streak was totally hot too. One question though...why the shorts under the kilt???
There is a strong and varied secondary cast that added a lot of depth to the story line and really made the story for me. I want to know more about Haven and the connection that she and Nexi share. I also thought the hierarchy set up for the world was interesting and unique. But I do have to say be careful because Ms. Kennedy likes to rock her inner George R.R. Martin and you just never know who is going to survive and who isn't.
The overall story is strong and I loved the characters but there are a lot of editing issues. I had a hard time staying in the story because of the number of wrong and missing words. I do plan on revisiting the world and hope the next book is a little cleaner.

I do not need to be entered into this contest because I got the chance to pre read this book and found it Wonderful. If anybody is looking for an interesting enjoyable read this would be a book for them. Keep up the great work Stacey Kennedy. I am looking forward to book number 2 in the series. And to anybody that has not read it yet her Frostbite series rocks.

ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the next one. The romantic tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife, I was yelling at the book "kiss her already". Great book Stacey.
