Tagg and Garrett aren't like the possessive men of Liberty. As brothers, they agree to share everything, and have been looking for a woman with a capacity for passion that will enable her to handle two strong lusty men.

When Sarah learns that women who flee Liberty cannot return with their reputations intact, she agrees to accept her fate of becoming one wife to two husbands. #Audiobook #Review: Dominating Devney @IAmVanessaVale @RockStarPR

Dominating Devney
Montana Maidens, Book 3
by Vanessa Vale

Blurb
Widow Devney Jenkins needs to remarry and quickly. Not only is she sought after for the vast ranch her husband left her, but she's remarkably still a virgin. She's quite a prize for any money-grubbing bachelor. She married her first husband out of sheer desperation, and it got her seven years of isolation and loneliness. It was not something she wished to repeat, so she decided to forge her own path. But that was impossible in Liberty, Montana, with the strict rules regarding the protection of women. And she learns those rules firsthand.

Cowboy Sam Bridger takes one look at Devney Jenkins and decides his bachelor days are over. He doesn't need Devney's land or money; he wants her maidenhead. No other man will touch her. She is his. The only person who stands in the way of this is Devney herself. Sam needs to take control of Devney's body in order to sway her mind toward marriage. Once achieved, his full domination of her body begins. Devney doesn't give in easily. She must learn through sound spankings and very pleasurable carnal rewards that being under Sam's control is everything she's ever wanted.

Review
Vanessa Vale does historical erotica good. If you are looking for a spicy hot story, this series does not disappoint. Set in a fictional town with unusual marital practices, this spicy tale is heat inducing! With more subservient women of that time period, the premise was easy to accept.

#AudioBook #Review: Taming Tessa @IAmVanessaVale @RockStarPR

Taming Tessa
Montana Maidens, Book 2
by Vanessa Vale

Blurb
Tessa Bowers grew up in Liberty, Montana but never knew of the well hidden and very strict rules for married women. If she had, she might not have flirted and set her sights on the wealthy rancher, Cole Bridger.

Cole wasn't a man controlled by anyone, let alone the little spitfire trying to lure him to the alter. He decided who he married. He decided when. So when Tessa shows up for church one Sunday, she enters as Miss Bowers and leaves as Mrs. Bridger.

Right from the start, Cole dictates his expectations of Tessa, who quickly realizes married life is not as she imagined. Willful and disobedient, she fights against the humiliating and shameful things he demands. With the help of the town doctor, Cole begins to train Tessa to be the proper wife. It is a difficult task, but he'd waited years to tame her - mind, body and soul.

Review
I've read/ listened to many Vanessa Vale historical erotica, and she knows how to write it well. This series is set in a fictional town with unusual marital practices. This book is the second in the series and is deliciously scandalous. With more subservient women of that time period, the premise was easy to sink into... and then relax and let the tingling begin!

#AudioBook #Review: Claiming Catherine @IAmVanessaVale @RockStarPR

Claiming Catherine
Montana Maiden Series, Book 1
by Vanessa Vale

Blurb
Branded a harlot for undoing a confining button on her blouse, Catherine Langton finds herself rejected by the man she is to marry, leaving her in a predicament: mail order bride or the poorhouse. Her decision is simple, and she arrives in Liberty, Montana, to marry a man she's never seen, her only desire to be a pleasing wife.
Jake Bridger exceeds Catherine's expectations at first glance. He looks as if he stepped from the pages of the Western romances she knows she shouldn't read. But she's about to find out that the men of Liberty are not like other men. Here, a wife is expected to make all of herself available to her husband, even parts a good girl like Catherine never expected a man to plunder. It's not an easy adjustment, but Jake isn't a man to take no for an answer, and he sets about training his new bride using techniques that soon have Catherine wantonly eager for his attentions.
But can Catherine live with her new husband's explicit requirements when it opposes everything she's known?

Review
Vanessa Vale does historical erotica right. And this series does not disappoint. Set in a fictional town with unusual marital practices, this spicy tale is absolutely tantalizing. With more subservient women of that time period, the premise was easy to sink into... and then relax and let the tingling begin! The entire book was sexy, sexy, sexy.

Soldier On by Author Sydney Logan

Synopsis
Will his call of duty break both their hearts?

Losing her father in Desert Storm has left Stephanie James with a bitter soul when it comes to the military. As a college senior juggling a full course load, Steph's only goal is to graduate with honors at the end of the semester. She’s focused, determined, and a firm believer in all work and no play. Then she meets Brandon Walker at a New Year’s Eve costume party. Despite his disguise, Steph finds herself attracted to the camouflaged soldier who curls her toes with a scorching midnight kiss.

Brandon is an engineering major and ROTC student from the hills of Kentucky. Growing up as the son of a major general has given Brandon firsthand knowledge of the struggles military families sometimes face. Now that his father’s memory is fading, Brandon is even more determined to make his dad proud and graduate as an officer in the United States Army. Then he meets Stephanie, and suddenly, his focus is less on his military service and more on the pretty brunette who has stolen his heart. When he becomes aware of Steph’s resentment toward the military, he worries their relationship is doomed.

Steph unexpectedly finds herself in need of a roommate. Brandon volunteers, thinking it’s the perfect opportunity to show her the real Brandon, before he’s forced to admit the truth about his four-year obligation to the army. Afraid that living together will be a distraction to graduating on time, Steph establishes house rules—rules they both find difficult to obey.

When faced with the realization that she's fallen in love with a soldier, can Steph’s wounds from the past be healed with love in her present . . . and in her future?

Excerpt
“Hey, you.”She blinks a few times before her face breaks out into the most beautiful grin I’ve ever seen. With a sweet laugh, she grabs me, pulling me down on top of her.For the first few minutes, all we do is stare at each other. Maybe because we can. Or maybe because we’re looking for little things we might have missed while we were apart.“Your hair’s longer,” I whisper.“Yours is shorter. I didn’t think that was possible.”She sighs softly, her eyes flickering to my mouth.“So, Lieutenant Walker, are you gonna kiss me or not?”“I’m thinking about it.”“You think too much.”She rolls us over, and we both groan as she covers her body with mine. Steph kisses me, and from the very second her lips touch mine, with all their frantic urgency and sweet warmth, I know in my heart that something has changed. Our kisses have changed. Our touch has changed. We’ve changed. There’s a craving there. A deep and powerful yearning that wasn’t there before and can only come from spending time apart. It makes us kiss one another a little slower, hold each other a little tighter, and love each other a little more than we did just twelve weeks ago.Steph suddenly lifts herself up, straddling my waist and sliding her hands along my stomach. Another flash of lightning in the sky shows me what she’s wearing. It’s my Princess Bride T-shirt, the same one I was wearing the day we met in class.“Nice shirt.”“Thanks. I stole it from your closet before you left. I’ve slept in it every night.”“Thief.”With a sly grin, she leans down and kisses me again.“You’ve stolen my clothes. Stolen my heart.”Steph smiles against my lips.“There’s something else I want to steal,” she whispers. I slide my hands along her back, pulling her closer to me as I raise myself up. Wrapping her arms around my neck, she melts against me when I bury my face against her neck.“I’ll give you anything, Steph.”
“Anything?””Whatever you want.”I lift my head and find her eyes, deep and dark and full of tears. All of her earlier playfulness is gone as she places her palm against my cheek.“I want your last name.”

 About Sydney Logan
Amazon best selling author Sydney Logan holds a Master's degree in Elementary Education. She is the author of three novels - Lessons Learned, Mountain Charm, and Soldier On. Sydney has also penned several short stories and is a contributor to Chicken Soup for the Soul.

A native of East Tennessee, Sydney enjoys playing piano and relaxing on her porch with her wonderful husband and their very spoiled cat.

Q/A with Sydney

Where do you find your inspiration?
People and music, mostly. Sometimes, like in the case with my novel Soldier On, I found a picture that served as inspiration and later, as the cover of the book.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
The most challenging thing is balancing writing and promotion. I’m not very good at it. It was easier when I only had one book, but the more I write, the harder it gets to juggle it all. I’m not complaining, because I love it, but that’s the biggest challenge for me.

What are your current projects?
I’m getting ready to release a holiday collection of short stories titled Once Upon a December. It will include two previously published Kindle short stories along with a new short story. It will release on November 28. I’m also working on my fourth novel.

Tell us about your first book. What would readers find different about the first one and your most recent published work?
Lessons Learned is actually my debut novel, but it was published two years ago with a small indie publisher. I’m now self-publishing it with a new cover. However, my most recently published novel is Soldier On. I think readers would find that my writing style is a little more laid-back now. I don’t agonize over every single word like I did with my first book.
I’m much more comfortable and confident in my storytelling.

Does music play any type of role in your writing?
I’m heavily inspired by music and lyrics. However, I can only write with instrumental music. I can’t listen to lyrics and write at the same time. I have to be careful about the instrumental music I choose because it can really influence the mood and tone of my story. I also create YouTube playlists for all of my stories.

Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your life?
There are little bits of me in all of my lead characters. In Lessons Learned, Sarah is a teacher like me and struggles with anxiety and panic attacks, both of which I’ve battled. In Mountain Charm, my second novel, Angelina lives in the mountains and loves bluegrass music. That’s me. In Soldier On, Steph loves 80s music. That’s totally me. :) Also in Soldier OnBrandon’s dad suffers from Alzheimer’s. That experience is based on the life of my friend, whose Mom was dealing with the disease at the time. My friend told me I should write a book about it, so I did.

What books have influenced your life most?
Anything by Nicholas Sparks, John Grisham’s A Time to KillHarry PotterTwilight, anything by Judy Blume, but especially Forever.

Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?
He’s not so new anymore, but John Green is a new favorite. I love books that rip your heart out and make you think, and The Fault in Our Stars certainly did those things to me. T.M. Franklin is an indie author who writes YA really well. My students love her MORE trilogy.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
My readers are the best! They’re always so excited to read something new from me, and I couldn’t be more grateful for their support.

Do you have a special time to write? How is your day structured writing-wise?
I don’t have a schedule, really. I write when I get the chance, which is usually at night, on weekends, or during school breaks. My colleagues ask what I’m doing for Spring Break, and my answer is always writing. :)

Why did you choose to write Romance stories?
I chose romance because I’m a happy-ever-after kind of girl. I especially love first-love stories, which is why I’m considering a YA novel next. I’ve written both contemporary romance (Lessons Learned) and New Adult (Mountain Charm and Soldier On).

What is for you the perfect book hero?
My perfect book hero is a man who adores the woman he loves. The “nice guy” is somewhat of a myth in contemporary romance. Most romantic heroes are alpha-males, but I want women (and teens) to know that there are nice guys out there. They really do exist!

When and why did you begin writing?
I’ve written songs, poems, and short stories since I was a kid, but I only started writing professionally about three years ago. I had posted some stories online when one of my readers contacted me. She just happened to be in acquisitions at a small, indie publisher (the original publisher of Lessons Learned).  She encouraged me to submit something, and that’s how Lessons Learned was born.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
When I was in high school, I had a poem published in one of those Who’s Who student journals. I also won 1st runner-up in a local writing contest. I actually considered majoring in journalism in college, but I decided to teach instead.

Will you write more about these characters?
I don’t think so. I think I left them in a good place. Everyone got their happy-ever-afters, even if it wasn’t quite how they imagined it. That’s life. :)

The door slammed shut, and a moment later the coach swayed off. The air in the small compartment quickly turned hot and humid. “Did you enjoy your card game?” Justine asked. “Were you always such an avid player? I suppose your company this evening inspired you.” Brandon hissed in air and pulled her into his lap with one swift movement. He tugged her legs over his so that she straddled him. Her chest tightened under the fierceness of his eyes and his firm grip. That demanding touch lit a fire inside her, a fire she barely understood. He wrapped a hand around her neck and pulled her down close taking her mouth in a hungry kiss, his tongue searching for hers, lashing, inflaming her further. Her fingers gripped the thick lapels of his great coat. His hands traveled down to her hips shoving her into position over him, and a sharp breath escaped her when she felt the pressure of his hardness right between her legs, just where she ached for him. The jostling of the coach pushed her against him roughly, and she let out a small cry as the friction between them multiplied her need. He let out a heavy breath as he slipped one hand under her dress over her bare flesh. Her body jerked in his arms, and a low cry escaped her lips as his fingers found her. “Yes, there you are,” he breathed, his voice thick in the darkness. He knew her body very well, and she immediately flooded with heat under his insistent touch. He buried his face in her bosom, his other hand sliding down her rear. Two of his fingers slid inside her, and she shuddered in his arms. “Brandon…” “You’re soaked.” He let out an expletive-filled groan. His fingers claimed her depths as his thumb stroked over her, teasing, rubbing. Her arms clutched his neck and shoulders, her thighs tightened, and she came apart sharply in his grip, letting out a low moan. “You liked that, eh, Lady Graven?” His smug, harsh tone struck her like an icy blast of winter air. Was that scorn, a taunt? Had he just proven a point? Her heart shrank. He had marked her like an animal in heat, showed her who was her master, proved to her to whom she belonged. She twisted back from his chest, but his strength was too much for her. His one hand fisted tightly in her hair, and he brought their faces inches apart. “Are you punishing me?” she asked against his lips, the back of her throat stinging. “Are you trying to teach me a lesson?” His eyes creased. “Punishing you?” “Yes, yes, punishing me.” “What the devil are you talking about?” “I told you you’d hate me for this marriage, you’d resent me.” Her hands pushed against his shoulders. “Tonight you saw what’s been denied you, and you’re angry.” His body hardened under her, his fingers gripped her bare thigh. “I am annoyed about Charles and Andrew,” Brandon said, his other hand releasing its tight hold on her hair. “But I don’t hate you.” His hands slid over her hips and pressed into her rear. Her breath caught in the darkness. The gentle yet carnal possessiveness of that gesture only set off a spiral of heat in her chest. “I don’t think I could ever hate you, Justine,” he whispered.

About By Winter's Light:

#1 New York Times bestselling author Stephanie Laurens returns to romantic Scotland to usher in a new generation of Cynsters in an enchanting tale of mistletoe, magic, and love.

It’s December 1837, and the young adults of the Cynster clan have succeeded in having the family Christmas celebration held at snow-bound Casphairn Manor, Richard and Catriona Cynster’s home. Led by Sebastian, Marquess of Earith, and by Lucilla, future Lady of the Vale, and her twin brother, Marcus, the upcoming generation has their own plans for the holiday season. Yet where Cynsters gather, love is never far behind—the festive occasion brings together Daniel Crosbie, tutor to Lucifer Cynster’s sons, and Claire Meadows, widow and governess to Gabriel Cynster’s daughter. Daniel and Claire have met before and the embers of an unexpected passion smolder between them, but once bitten, twice shy, Claire believes a second marriage is not in her stars. Daniel, however, is determined to press his suit. He’s seen the love the Cynsters share, and Claire is the lady with whom he dreams of sharing his life. Assisted by a bevy of Cynsters—innate matchmakers every one—Daniel strives to persuade Claire that trusting him with her hand and her heart is her right path to happiness. Meanwhile, out riding on Christmas Eve, the young adults of the Cynster clan respond to a plea for help. Summoned to a humble dwelling in ruggedly forested mountains, Lucilla is called on to help with the difficult birth of a child, while the others rise to the challenge of helping her. With a violent storm closing in and severely limited options, the next generation of Cynsters face their first collective test—can they save this mother and child? And themselves, too? Back at the manor, Claire is increasingly drawn to Daniel and despite her misgivings, against the backdrop of the ongoing festivities their relationship deepens. Yet she remains torn—until catastrophe strikes, and by winter’s light, she learns that love—true love—is worth any risk, any price. A tale brimming with all the magical delights of a Scottish festive season.

Excerpt:
CHAPTER 1 December 23, 1837 Casphairn Manor, the Vale of Casphairn, Scotland

Daniel Crosbie felt as if all his Christmases had come at once. Letting his gaze travel the Great Hall of Casphairn Manor, filled to overflowing with six Cynster families and various associated household members, he allowed himself a moment to savor both his unexpected good fortune and his consequent hope. About him, the combined households were enjoying the hearty dinner provided to welcome them to the celebration planned for the next ten days—as Daniel understood it, a combination of Christmas, the more ancient Yuletide, and Hogmanay. Seated about the long refectory-like tables on benches rather than chairs, with eyes alight and smiles on their faces, the assembled throng was in ebullient mood. Conversation and laughter abounded; delight and expectation shone in most faces, illuminated by the warm glow of the candlelight cast from massive circular chandeliers depending from thick chains from the high-domed ceiling. The central room about which the manor was built, the Great Hall lived up to its name; the space within its thick walls of pale gray stone was large enough to accommodate the Cynster contingent, all told about sixty strong, as well as the families of the various retainers who worked in and around the manor, which functioned like a small village. With no family of his own still alive, Daniel had spent his last ten Christmases with the Cynster family for whom he acted as tutor—the family of Mr. Alasdair Cynster and his wife, Phyllida—but this was the first time in that decade that the Cynsters had come north for Christmas. The six Cynster families present—the six families closest to the dukedom of St. Ives, those of Devil, Duke of St. Ives, his brother Richard, and his cousins Vane, Harry, Rupert, and Alasdair—invariably came together at Christmastime. They were often joined by other connected families not present on this occasion; the long journey to the Vale, in the western Lowlands of Scotland, to the home of Richard Cynster and his wife Catriona in a season that had turned icy and cold with snow on the ground much earlier than expected had discouraged all but the most determined. Out of long-established habit, Daniel glanced at his charges—soon to be erstwhile charges—seated at the next table with their cousins and second cousins. Aidan, now sixteen years old, and Evan, fifteen, had passed out of Daniel’s immediate care when they’d gone up to Eton, yet Daniel still kept an eye on the pair when they were home—an action their parents appreciated and which the boys, at ease with him after all the years, bore with good grace. At that moment, both were talking animatedly with their male cousins in a fashion that instantly, at least in Daniel’s mind, raised the question of what the group was planning. He made a mental note to inquire later. Jason, the youngest son of the family and the last of Daniel’s true charges, was similarly occupied with the group of Cynster offspring nearer his age. Now eleven, later in the coming year, Jason, too, would start his formal schooling—a circumstance which had, for Daniel, raised the uncomfortable question of what he would do then. Once Jason left for Eton and there were no more boys in Alasdair Cynster’s household in Colyton, in Devon, for Daniel to tutor, what would he do for a living? The question had plagued him for several months, not least because if he was ever to have a chance at the sort of life he now knew he wanted, and, if at all possible, was determined to claim, he needed to have secure employment—a place, a position, with a steady salary or stipend. He’d been wracking his brains, trying to think of his options, of what might be possible, when Mr. Cynster—Alasdair—had called him into the library and laid before him a proposal that, in a nutshell, was the answer to all his prayers. On several occasions over the years, Daniel had assisted Alasdair with his interests in ancient and antique jewelry, with documenting finds and establishing provenances, and also with cataloguing and adding to the collection of rare books Alasdair had inherited from the previous owner of the manor. Alasdair, supported by Phyllida, had suggested that, once Jason had departed with his brothers for Eton, if Daniel was happy to remain in Colyton as a member of their household, they would be delighted to engage him as Alasdair’s personal secretary, an amanuensis to assist with Alasdair’s ever-expanding interests. The suggested stipend was generous, the conditions all Daniel could have hoped for. Not only would the new position suit him, it would solve all his difficulties. Most importantly, it cleared the way for him to offer for Claire Meadows’s hand. He glanced along the board to his right. Clad in a soft woolen gown in a muted shade of blue, Claire—Mrs. Meadows—was sitting on the opposite side of the table, two places down. She was the governess in Rupert Cynster’s household; as Rupert and Alasdair were brothers, Claire and Daniel were often thrown together when the families gathered. It was customary in such circumstances that the attending tutors and governesses banded together, sharing responsibilities and each other’s company, as they were at present. The manor’s governess, Miss Melinda Spotswood, a comfortable matronly sort with a backbone of forged iron, was chatting to Claire. On Melinda’s other side, opposite Daniel, sat Oswald Raven, tutor at the manor; a few years older than Daniel, Raven projected a debonair façade, but he was hardworking and devoted to his charges. Raven was chatting to Mr. Samuel Morris, who was seated alongside Daniel and hailed from Vane Cynster’s household in Kent; the oldest of the group, Morris was slightly rotund and had an unfailingly genial air, yet he was a sound scholar and very capable of exerting a firm hand on his charges’ reins. All five had met and shared duties on several occasions before; the rapport between them was comfortable and relaxed. Over the coming days, they would, between them, keep an eye on the combined flock of Cynster children—the younger ones, at least. The oldest group, the seventeen-year-olds led by eighteen-year-old Sebastian Cynster, Marquess of Earith and future head of the house, could be relied on to take care of themselves, along with the large group of sixteen- and fifteen-year-old males. But there were six boys thirteen years and under, and seven girls ranging from eight to fourteen years old, and over them the tutors and governesses would need to exert control sufficient to ensure they remained suitably occupied. There was no telling what the engaging devils would get up to if left unsupervised. Being governess or tutor to Cynster children was never dull or boring. Daniel had managed to keep his gaze from Claire for all of ten minutes. Despite the color and vibrancy, the noise and distraction—despite the many handsome and outright stunningly beautiful faces around about—hers was the shining star in his firmament; regardless of where they were, regardless of competing sights and sounds, she effortlessly drew his gaze and transfixed his attention. She’d done so from the moment he’d first seen her at one of the family’s Summer Celebrations in Cambridgeshire several years ago. They’d subsequently met on and off at various family functions, at weddings in London, at major family birthdays, and at seasonal celebrations like the current one. With each exposure, his attraction to Claire, his focus on her, had only grown more definite, more acute, until the obvious conclusion had stared him in the face, impossible to resist, much less deny. Utterly impossible to ignore. “If the weather holds,” Raven said, commanding Daniel’s attention with his gaze, “and the older crew go riding as they’re planning, then we’ll need to invent some suitable pastimes to keep our charges amused.” Seated with his back to the table at which the Cynster children were gathered, Raven had turned and asked what the animated talk had been about. Riding out to assess the position and state of the deer herds had been the answer. Daniel nodded. “If at all possible, let’s get those left to our care out of doors.” “Indeed,” Melinda said, turning from Claire to join the conversation. “We need to take advantage of any clear days. If it is fine enough tomorrow, I was saying to Claire that the fourteen-year-olds—the girls—might like to gather greenery to decorate the hall.” Melinda gestured to the stone walls hosting various fireplaces and archways, all presently devoid of any seasonal touches. “It’s customary to decorate them on the twenty-fourth, which is tomorrow.” “I’d heard,” Morris said, “that there’s some tradition about the Yule log that’s followed hereabouts.” He looked to Raven for confirmation. Raven, his hair as dark as his name would suggest, nodded. “Yes, that’s an inspired idea. Not only is it necessary to collect the right-sized logs, but the logs have to be carved. That should keep the boys amused for hours. I’ll speak to the staff about organizing whatever’s needed.” Daniel nodded again, and his gaze drifted once more to Claire; she’d been following the conversation, her calm expression indicating her agreement with the suggestions. With her glossy mid-brown hair burnished by the candlelight, with her delicate features and milky-white skin, her lips of pale rose, lush and full, and her large hazel eyes set under finely arched brown brows, she was, to his eyes, the epitome of womanhood. That she was a widow—had been widowed at a young age—was neither here nor there, yet the experience had, it seemed, imbued her with a certain gravitas, leaving her more reserved, more cautious, and with a more sober and serious demeanor than might be expected of a well-bred lady of twenty-seven summers. Her station—gentry-born but fallen on hard times—was similar to, or perhaps a touch higher than, Daniel’s; he didn’t really know. Nor did he truly care. They were both as they were here and now, and what happened next … that was up to them. He’d come to Scotland, to the Vale, determined to put his luck to the test—to seize the opportunity to speak with Claire and plead his case, to learn if she shared his hopes and if she could come to share his dreams. A gust of laughter and conversation drew his gaze to the high table. The six Cynster couples were seated about the table on the raised dais along one side of the room, a traditional positioning most likely dating from medieval times. In addition to those twelve—middle-aged, perhaps, yet still vibrantly handsome, articulate, active, and engaged—there were three of the older generation at one end of the board. Helena, Dowager Duchess of St. Ives, mother of Devil and Richard and elder matriarch of the clan, was seated at the end of the table closest to the hearth, and had chosen to summon Algaria, Catriona’s aging mentor, and McArdle, the ancient butler of the manor, now retired, to join her there. The three were much of an age and, judging by their glances and gestures, were busy sharing pithy observations on all others in the hall. Having met the dowager and been the object of her scrutiny on several occasions, Daniel didn’t like to think of how much she, let alone black-eyed Algaria, was seeing. A comment in a deep voice, followed by laughter, drew Daniel’s gaze back to the twelve Cynsters of the generation that currently ruled. Their children might have been growing apace, might already have been showing signs of the forceful, powerful individuals they had the potential to become, yet the twelve seated about the high table still dominated their world. Daniel had observed them—those six couples in particular—for the past ten years. All the males had been born to wealth, but what they’d made of it—the lives each had successfully wrought—hadn’t been based solely on inherited advantage. Each of the six possessed a certain strength—a nuanced blend of power, ability, and insight—that Daniel appreciated, admired, and aspired to. It had taken him some time to realize from where that particular strength derived—namely, from the ladies. From their marriages. From the connection—the link that was so deep, so strong, so anchoring—that each of the six males shared with his wife. Once he’d seen and understood, Daniel had wanted the same for himself. His gaze shifted again to Claire. Once he’d met her, he’d known whom he wanted to share just such a link with. Now he stood on the cusp of reaching for it—of chancing his hand and hoping he could persuade her to form such a connection with him. Whatever gaining her assent required, he would do. Now Fate in the form of Alasdair Cynster had cleared his path, it was time to screw his courage to the sticking point and act. Hope, anticipation, and trepidation churned in his gut. But he was there and so was she, and he was determined to move forward. He knew how he felt about her, and he thought she felt similarly toward him. His first step, plainly, was to determine whether he was correct in believing that—and whether with encouragement, “like” could grow into something more.

NEW RELEASE! Court by Cat Patrick @seecatwrite

court_96
About Court
goodreads-badge-add-plus-d700d4d3e3c0b346066731ac07b7fe47For more than 400 years, a secret monarchy has survived and thrived within the borders of the US, hiding in plain sight as the state known as Wyoming. But when the king is shot and his seventeen-year-old son, Haakon McHale, is told he will take the throne, becoming the eleventh ruler of the Kingdom of Eurus, the community that's survived for centuries is pushed to the limit. Told through four perspectives, Court transplants us to a world that looks like ours, but isn't. Gwendolyn Rose, daughter of the Duke of Coal, is grudgingly betrothed to Haakon -- and just wants a way out. Alexander Oxendine, son of the Duke of Wind and Haakon's lifelong best friend, already grapples with external struggles when he's assigned to guard Haakon after the king dies. And commoner Mary Doyle finds whispers in the woods that may solve -- or destroy -- everything, depending on your bloodline. Money. Love. Power. Community. What's your motivation?

Q&A with Cat

Where did the idea came from? After writing The Originals, I wanted to write something from multiple character perspectives. Around that time, I was thinking of my home state of Wyoming. A friend had recently driven through, and I thought about how people who aren’t from there don’t really know that much about Wyoming—it could be its own world, hiding secrets. It could be its own kingdom.
Out of all the 4 perspectives, which is the hardest to write? Surprisingly, the boys’ voices came easiest. (And there used to be two more!) As for one POV being more difficult than the others, I think the real challenge was developing each voice individually with only a heaping handful of chapters per character.
How do you think you’ve evolved creatively? Any craft grows with practice, and I hope that I’ve become a more controlled writer as I’ve published more books. I’m definitely more of a risk-taker than I was in the beginning, as well.
What 5 things would you like readers to know about you? That I’m the greatest mommy in the world. (Say my children.) I love, and am inspired by, wind. I can kill it at Dance Central on Xbox. I share a birthday with one of my siblings. I once met Muhammad Ali.

Excerpt
HAAKON Before he was the enemy, James Haakon McHale III was just a seventeen-year-old in what most people knew as the state of Wyoming, wishing he was somewhere other than the predawn forest with a rifle in his grip. “It’s colder than moonlight on a tombstone,” Haakon muttered, blowing on his fist. His thick-soled boots swish-thumped on the hard earth as he skillfully avoided twigs, rocks, and low branches. Alexander Oxendine—youngest son of the Duke of Wind, wide receiver, video game button masher, and Haakon’s best friend—laughed into his collar. It could’ve been mistaken for a cough. “It’s colder than a whore’s heart,” Alexander said, his tone cautiously low. They were the youngest members of the hunting party, and were only allowed to take part because of their rank. Haakon could think of a thousand superior privileges. He glanced around to make sure none of the other men were paying attention—especially his father. Smirking, he said, “Colder than a polar bear’s balls.” The pair stifled laughter. “Than a witch’s—” “Too easy.” “Colder than a dead woman’s touch,” Alexander said. Haakon checked again, dialed down his voice even more, and said, “It’s colder than Gwendolyn Rose’s kiss.” “Quiet!” It was Haakon’s father: dictator, fun-spoiler, and—regrettably for his son—the tenth ruler of the Kingdom of Eurus, also known as the Realm, the monarchy hiding in plain sight in the depths of the Democracy known as the United States of America. Every schoolchild knew the story. In 1670, after Joseph Dyer’s wife died in the Great Plague in London, he brought his five daughters to what would become the United States one hundred years later, seeking a better life. But it soon became apparent that his family would never thrive under strict Puritan rule in New England–which banned higher education for girls and taught submissiveness above all else, and which centered around extreme religious beliefs that were counter to Dyer’s own. A friend, John Seymour, who was—controversially—married to a Native woman, suggested that they set out together in search of a new home deep within America’s treacherous unknown. Seymour’s wife had been attacked; her family persecuted. Seymour believed that rather than fighting the Natives, they should live in harmony with them. Dyer, Seymour, and several other men and their families snuck away. After a long and dangerous journey, together they created their version of paradise: a kingdom that blended the best of England with Native cultures. Dyer was thought of as the Father of the Realm, and Seymour’s Native wife, who ensured their survival through tribal relations, the Mother. Rather than cause a revolution, the founders decided to keep the kingdom secret. Inside the borders of what they’d eventually stake claim as Wyoming, they’d follow their own rules. Outsiders wouldn’t know they were different because they wouldn’t understand. Outsiders weren’t to be trusted. Dyer’s youngest daughter, captivated by the ancient Greek she wouldn’t have been allowed to learn in Puritan society, named the new kingdom Eurus, meaning east wind. She pronounced it “air-us.” “But the winds here blow from the west,” Haakon had asked his father once—before Dad was King James. That was when it was okay to ask questions. When curiosity wasn’t an imposition. “That’s right, Haakon,” his father had replied, straw between his teeth. They’d gone on a walk together. The sun was setting on an easy day. His dad had pointed toward the eastern horizon. “The wind here does primarily blow from the west, but our founders blew in from the east. That day, the wind changed directions.” Haakon frowned away the memory of days never to return, and refocused on the trees. He walked as soundlessly as he could in his camo fleece jacket and vintage Levi’s, his rifle nestled in the crook of his left arm, a round in the chamber. He was on the left edge of the group, three rows behind his father. Evenly spaced gaps between them, the men were like migrating geese, locked in formation. Geese hunting deer. “Were you drinking last night?” Haakon’s father had demanded on the way to the meeting point that morning. “Is that why you’re so tired?” “I’m tired because it’s so early that the birds aren’t even awake yet.” “Good. Because you know what the consequences will be if you start drinking again.” They’d shared the backseat of the armored SUV; Haakon had done his best to preoccupy himself with his cell phone. “Yes, sir, I know.” “You need to turn that thing off before we arrive. And when’s your next haircut? You look slovenly.” Will you just get off my back? Haakon had thought at the top of his lungs. What he’d said, though, was simply, “Yes, sir.” There, in the forest, Haakon toyed with the idea of raising his gun and shooting King James square in the back of the head. Right there under his hat, just above the rise of his custom down hunting vest. He could do it. Even with the others present, he knew there’d be no trial, no trip to Corby. But offing his father wouldn’t solve anything. In fact, it would make life a lot worse. Because with his father gone, Haakon would be in charge. Haakon would become the King of Eurus. The thought made him want to puke.

Excerpt (Chapter 1)

The piercing chime of my phone jerked me awake. Disoriented and shaking, I grabbed my cell and struggled to focus on the screen.

Congratulations, Sarah. You slept a whole three hours.

Falling asleep had been difficult. My restlessness could easily be blamed on yesterday’s long drive or spending the night in a new place, but I hadn’t slept well in months, so my fitful sleep wasn’t all that surprising.

However, I could do without the nightmares.

It was nearly three in the morning when I’d finally arrived in Sycamore Falls. Exhausted from the drive, I’d collapsed on the couch, but sleeping proved impossible. It was just too quiet. I’d grown accustomed to noisy neighbors and blasting car horns.

A change of scenery could be exactly what I need, my therapist had told me.

Sycamore Falls was definitely a change in scenery.

Stiff and sore from the uncomfortable couch, I groaned as I struggled to sit up. My body trembled when my bare feet hit the hardwood floor. I’d forgotten how cold this house could be, even in the summer, but anything with long sleeves would be in a box, and all the boxes were arranged in a chaotic mess in my living room.

Maybe some sunshine will warm me up.

I wrapped my blanket around me and circled the maze of boxes before shuffling toward the kitchen. It was neat and tidy as ever, with its faded yellow wallpaper. Grandma Grace had always loved wildflowers, and I smiled as I gazed at the collection of daisy canisters lining the wall next to the sink. Mom had been a terrible cook, so grandma had taken it upon herself to teach me. Baking was my favorite, and we’d spent countless nights in this kitchen with my apron covered in flour. Grandma had been fine with making a mess—as long as I cleaned it up—and that freedom had led to many honest discussions throughout the years.

“Sycamore Falls has its issues,” Grandma had told me one autumn day while teaching me how to make fried apple pies. “We’re too sheltered from the rest of the world. Sometimes that’s a good thing. Sometimes it isn’t. The world can be a scary place. It’s good to know you have a safe place to come home to when the world gets a little crazy. You’re one of the lucky ones, Sarah. You will always have a home here. Remember that.”

I remember.

I opened the front door and was instantly greeted with cool morning air. Eager to see the house in the daylight, I gingerly walked down the steps and onto the sidewalk. Thankfully, Mr. Johnson had hired someone to mow the grass before I arrived, which allowed me to mark one thing off my to-do list.

As I gazed up at the house, I could see my list would be long.

Growing up, I’d thought my grandmother’s home was the most beautiful in Sycamore Falls. Majestic and blue with its white shutters and wrap-around porch, it was the place I’d always felt the most comfortable and safe.

Time hadn’t been kind to the house, and that was my fault. Mr. Johnson had done his best, but a house needs tender loving care, and its last two years without an occupant had been rough on the place. The chipped siding needed a coat of paint, the flowerbeds resembled a jungle, and some of the shingles needed to be replaced, but none of that mattered.

I felt a small sense of satisfaction and breathed a sigh of relief.

I was safe.

I was home.

Q/A with Sydney Logan

How did you come up with the idea for this story?

They say to write what you know, so for Lessons Learned, I knew I wanted to write about teaching since that’s my “day job.” Thankfully, I haven’t had to deal with the traumas my main character faces. I also knew I wanted to write a love story with a message, and bullying is such an epidemic in our society that I wanted to highlight that in this book.

Excerpt

Tess’s fists pulled on the sheets, tore them from the mattress. Juices flooded her sex.
Lick.
“Oh…”
Flick.
“My…”
Stab.
“Fucking…”
Suck.
“God…”
Bite.
“Yes.”
Just as she knew she could take no more, that she was on the edge of the precipice ready to fall, her lover stopped. Lifted his head. Eyes like ice stared into hers, boring into her soul.
“Tease.” she gasped.
He didn’t reply. He never did. Instead he straightened, knees still firmly planted beside hers, and wrapped one large hand around his rigid organ, stroking its bulbous head with his thumb.
Tess sucked in a breath, the squirming tension in her pussy impatient. That massive, solid cock would be soon embedded in her sex, stretching her to the very limits. Meeting his burning stare, she caught her breath as he moved closer, cock lined up with her spread folds.
She was ready.
Ready to be consumed.
To be—
The raucous laugh of a lone kookaburra shattered the night.
With a gasp, Tess sat bolt upright, heart hammering against her chest, nostrils flaring.
She stared about the room, her eyes darting from one dark corner to the next. Nothing but unpacked boxes, stacks of books and deep moon-cast shadows. Alone. She was alone.
A growl of frustration tore from her throat as she dragged her hands through her tousled hair. A dream. Just another goddamn dream. Outside, the insomniac kookaburra screeched with mirth again.
Biting back a curse, Tess dropped back onto her bed. “Fuck.” Her mutter fell heavy in the silence of the night, as did her angry sigh.
Five nights. Five nights in a row of the most explosive sex of her life, only to awaken every time to discover it was just a dream. She stared up at the still unfamiliar ceiling of her bedroom, craving release.
Five nights.

Life is never as it seems and for Molly Meyers, life has been one hell of a roller coaster the past couple of years. When she thinks she finally has a handle on where her future is taking her, she gets a visit from her past which throws her entire life plan up in the air.

The question is can Molly handle the ups and downs this past relationship will bring her? Or does she need to keep the past where it belongs and not only try to save herself, but save her baby girl as well?

The gang is back and this time, no one is left untouched. Pain, confusion, frustration and disappointment are spread through the group as new and exciting adventures are welcomed and unexpected events occur. Catch up with the characters and their lives in Warning Track as the drama continues in the third installment of the Hot-Lanta series.

Excerpt
Molly stared at herself in the mirror. She looked like a completely different person. She’d cut her hair into a bob, just above her shoulders and added some highlights. The bags under her eyes that were starting to look like they might be permanent had slowly started to disappear and her complexion looked healthier. She hadn’t had a drink of alcohol since Jane had practically kicked her ass and she’d replaced cigarettes and drugs with exercise, something Molly had always balked at when Jane suggested it before, but she found running in the morning made her feel more invigorated throughout the day.

She talked to Jim and Marcia, Luke’s parents, and told them about the changes she’d made in her life and the steps she was taking to improve her life. They all decided that splitting time with Winnie during the week, until Molly got her feet fully back on the ground, was the best plan.

Molly got a job with her old school. The new principal, who was a teacher when Molly worked there before, always got along with Molly and when Molly approached her about finding a job, she was instantly offered a position that had just opened up, teaching fifth graders. The timing was perfect and Molly thought Luke must be looking out for her. She used to teach third graders, so she had to brush up on her fifth grade curriculum, but she had a while until the school year started back up in September.

She pretty much had everything back in her life, except for a man.

The Hot-Lanta series has been redesigned to make it even hotter!

Review
Another Stage Dive romance... and another success! The uniqueness of each man's story makes this series fresh with each new book. The characters' personalities resonate both as secondary characters and when they move into the spotlight as the main characters. Each book is like visiting with old friends. But here's what made Lead so great... I've never read a romance like it. Jimmy and Lena definitely had a sexual chemistry and there was a mild, though palpitating, under-current. Still, the majority of the book was focused on how they grew into people capable of a real relationship. Without the distraction of sex, the relationship came to the forefront. So refreshing. And beautiful. I adored this book.

If you are a Kylie Scott fan, no doubt you've already read the series. What are you waiting for then? Get reading Lead. And if you haven't read the others, you know what I say... start with book one and dive into the Stage Dive series. It'll rock your world!

“Lena, you seen my old black Led Zep shirt?”
“Nope.”
“You sure?” His brows became one dark cranky line. The scratches on his face were healing well, thank goodness. Though it didn’t reduce my desire to throttle his mother on a daily basis.
“Yes. I haven’t seen it.”
Can’t find it anywhere…”
“And this is a surprise, how?” I slipped my hands into my back jean’s pockets. “Jimmy, you own more clothing than Cher, Brittney, and Elvis, put together. Things are bound to go missing.”
“Sure you haven’t seen it?”
“For goodness sake, what do you think, Jimmy? That I stole it to sleep in or something?” I laughed bitterly. Sure as hell, the truth deserved a good mocking. I’d sunk so despicably low.
I hadn’t even meant to steal the stupid thing, but the shirt had been mixed up with my laundry a few days ago. It’d been the first top I laid my hand on after stepping out of the shower, ready to go to bed. Without thought, I’d put it on and it’d been so soft, the scent of him lingering beneath the laundry detergent. Every night since, I’d found myself in it come bedtime. My shame knew no limits. And no, I still hadn’t quit. The words still hadn’t come even close to leaving my mouth.
He frowned. “No.”
“That I have some deep secret longing to feel close to you resulting in my stealing your shirt like some creepy perv?”
“Course I don’t fucking think that,” he replied crankily, reaching up to grip the top of the doorframe. All of his bulging muscles stretched the arms of his white T-shirt in the nicest way. It was all I could do not to start drooling, my heart beat taking up residence somewhere down between my thighs. And who could blame it? Not me. Maybe if I got laid, this would go away and things would return to normal. It’d seemed safer to avoid rubbing up against any men just in case I got carried away and started dating again. This new situation, however, changed everything.
“Well, of course not! That would be crazy.” And wasn’t that the god’s honest truth? Cray-zeee. Lock me up and throw away the key because it wasn’t like I didn’t know better.
“Just can’t figure out where the hell it could be.”
Angels couldn’t have smiled as innocently. They might have tried, but they would have failed, the dirty-mouthed, winged, little liars. “Jimmy, I don’t know where it is. But I’ll look around for it later, okay?”
“Yeah,” he said, and then added as an afterthought, “and stop looking at me weird.”
“I’m not!”
