Duke hopped down to meet his boy, licking Grainger’s face. Poor kid. Audie’s mom was gonna have a fit when she saw her grandson with a black eye.
Of course, kids healed quick. Maybe they’d just beg off dinner over there tomorrow night, go have pizza in town….
He grinned at the little voice in his head that sounded like his momma. Coward.
Yeah, yeah. Still. If he worked it right, he wouldn’t see her until she came to pick Grainger up for Sunday school….
“Daddy! Can we have ice cream?”
Well, that settled it. He knew what they were getting on the way home. “Sure, buddy. Just a small one, huh?”
“Yes, sir. I’m sorry about pushing Randi, but she’s real mean, and she hit me.”
“She’s got a tough row to hoe, kiddo. Her daddy is blind, did you see?” That was a good start to a conversation, and he hoped Grainger might find a little understanding.

OMH, the feels I got while reading this book!! Welcome aboard the emotion express, from sadness, to laughter, to awww, to anger, to big sigh of happiness with a healthy dose of wow scorching sex.
Audie is a single dad and a cowboy through and through.
Dixson is a musician who has not only lost his partner but his sight as well.
The kids may have brought the men together, but love will give them the strength to stay together.
This book pulled me in right away. The author has a wonderful storytelling voice that brings her characters to life on the pages. The relationship is beautifully built through their interactions with the kids so it has a solid foundation. I enjoyed reading the development between Audie and Dixson, it's not rushed, but grows organically because of mutual respect and desire.
There is a large cast of secondary characters that added to the story and give it that "real" feel. The author does a great job of writing the kids. The way that they speak and act is on par with how children should act and speak at their ages.
I am hoping for a story about Dan, Dixson's brother, because who doesn't want a story about a sexy military man with a wicked sense of humor.
Brilliantly written story, that this reader never wanted to end.

What's Left of Me by Kimberly Lewis on audio was a good listen. It was a sweet story of forgiveness and reunion with just enough angst to keep it moving quickly. Though short, readers get a full love story worth the credit.
