Fury by @LaurannDohner #REVIEW

Fury, Laurann Dohner, Ellora's Cave
New Species #1
Ellie is horrified to discover the pharmaceutical company she works for is doing illegal experiments. Company scientists have spliced human and animal DNA, creating exotic new species. One such “experiment” captures her heart and she’ll do anything to save him—even if he hates her for it.

Fury has never known compassion or love. He’s spent his life in a cell, chained and abused by humans. The one woman he allowed himself to trust betrayed him. Now he’s free and set on vengeance. He vows to end her life but when she’s finally in his grasp, harming her is the last thing he wants to do to the sexy little human.

Fury can’t resist Ellie—the touch of her hands, her mouth on his skin, her body wrapped around his. He’s obsessed with the scent of his woman. And Ellie wants Fury—always has. She craves his big, powerful body and wants to heal his desolate heart.

But loving Fury is one thing…taming him is another.

REVIEW:
OH yes  - yes –yes!  I found a new series all by myself.  I am in love with this series.  I have been working like a dog and I haven’t had time to read or write any reviews but that is all over.  I decided to start my New Year’s Resolution early and that is time for me.  Time to read and time to write!  There is nothing better than taking time and scanning around to find a new book or in my case a new series to read over the holiday.  I have three weeks off from the craziest year ever and I am vowing never to let ME time be the first to go when things get busy.  Thanks to all my friends that still call me “friend” even though I have been absent for all this time.

Now that I am done with all the sappy stuff on to the great stuff! Oh to get lost in a book – If you liked Lora Leah’s Breed Series then you will want to read this. I just finished Fury’s book and wanted to do a quick “Hell Yes Read This” before I go on to Book Two “Slade”. I hate to say this but I actually enjoyed this more.  Everyone that knows me knows that I love the Breed Series and I loved it so much that I couldn’t really read anything similar because it couldn’t compare. I would start the book and throw it down or delete it and move on.  This book held my attention the whole way through.  Yes – both series are genetically alter – both are held in captive and abused but this series isn’t about the “Mate For Life Because of Our Genetic Make Up”! Fury and Ellie are attracted to each other from the start. They aren’t destined to be together and so it isn’t the same old same old story. The “New Species” aren’t hiding from the world – they are trying to make their way and assimilate. Laurann has it right because her series is about the gift of falling in love.  No matter who you are – no matter what happen to you in the past – it is never too late to have the one person in your life that makes it all worth it.  A problem, as Ellie puts it in the book, is in most cases a “Communication Breakdown”.
I highly recommend this series! There is a little bit of editing issues but nothing that drives you crazy.  I am sure that I will read every last one.  I have another book that I got at the same time.  So… Slade is going to have to wait a couple days but he will be traveling with me in a couple days will I visit friends.  Laurann Dohner, thank you so much for this series.  It is the first book of yours that I have ever read but you are now on my favorite authors list.  Merry Christmas to you and everyone and happy reading!!!!!!!!!!  Fury gets a 4 ½ chocolate dipped strawberries.

BOOK TOUR: Primal Song

Primal Song
Author:  Danica Avet
Publisher:  Ellora’s Cave
Length:  139 pages
Sub-Genres: Paranormal, Shifter

BLURB
Deputy Daisy Picou is not impressed when Ram Reinhardt prowls into town all rock star swagger and big cat ego. She’s been burned by a lion before and has no intention of playing the fool twice. But with one scorching glance the mating frenzy ignites and passion trumps reason. An intense first encounter levels Daisy’s reservations—and most of her living room. And she’s not so sure she minds.
Ram Reinhardt has burned through and brushed aside just about every adrenaline-inducing thrill life’s thrown at him. But Daisy sets the gold standard for a premium rush. Her combative personality should turn him off, but every time they fight they end up in bed, or on the floor, or against a wall—and the sex is always more combustible than the time before. And he’s not about to give that up. Ever.

EXCERPT
Something banged on the front porch of the house, rousing her from her self-pity. It wasn’t a stealthy sound, but more like someone was trying to figure out how to get inside and didn’t care if anyone heard them.
Daisy pulled her service pistol out of the belt she’d left coiled on her nightstand. Some women kept lotions and sleeping masks or even books on their nightstands. Daisy left her gun and enough ammo to start a small war.
She climbed out of bed and toyed with the idea of getting dressed before she went to check on the noise, but another scraping sound prodded her into moving. She did throw a robe over her naked body and loosely tied it, not wanting to wave her girl parts at a potential burglar. Slipping through her house on silent feet, she wondered if one of the strangers in town had decided to try their luck at burglarizing a few houses. It was rare, but it did happen.
Adrenaline and a tinge of fear washed through her as she made her way in the direction of the sound. Those were definitely scraping, scratching sounds, as if someone was using a lock pick to open the door. Heart pounding in her chest, she eased to the window beside the front door and peeked out. And blinked.
There was a lion on her porch. A huge friggin’ beast with a thick, dark mane and the kind of fangs that belonged on the Discovery Channel. He had one paw on her front door and she watched in stunned disbelief as he tried picking her lock with one carefully extended claw.
The only lion shifter she was aware of in the area was the musician, but it made no sense for him to be here. What was he planning to do? Break in her house and sing at her? She bit back a snort. She wasn’t afraid of any big cat. Being a bear had its benefits, mainly that she outweighed most males in her animal form, but her bear wasn’t even fazed by this unexpected visit. In fact, it wanted to come out right now, not to attack, but to play. It thought the idea of a lion trying to break into their territory a great way to end the evening. Daisy sniffed deeply, drawing the scent of cat through the door and knew it was the musician. Beneath that wild, musky cat scent was a hint of the same male she’d been trying not to think about since she left the fairgrounds.
Shit. What was he doing here? She breathed deep again, trying to figure out his frame of mind. Was he pissed that she left the performance? She almost snorted at the thought. That would take listener satisfaction a little too far. But he smelled hot and agitated. Her head swam as something else filtered through her senses, making her body feel sluggish again.
Her lower body throbbed with want, her nipples tightened into near-painful points. She was getting turned-on. Seriously turned-on because she could feel dampness on her thighs as her moisture seeped from her channel.
He growled. The low, deep rumble sent a bolt of excitement straight to her clit and she gasped.
She reached for the door, not sure if she planned to tell him to get away, or invite him in. She wanted more than she ever had before, but he wasn’t what she needed, right? Only an idiot would open the door to a male who would use her and leave her. Apparently her horniness dropped her IQ by several points because she undid the lock and turned the knob.
But she’d waited too long and the lion had gotten tired of trying to pick the lock. The instant Daisy swung open the door, two paws landed on her chest, taking her to the floor.
The gun bounced out of her hand, sliding across the tile where it bumped up against the leg of a table. Five hundred pounds of big cat was a lot and it took a few minutes for Daisy to get her wind back. She wanted to curse when she did. If he was a serial stalker or something, she’d just lost her weapon and given him the dominant position. She was a fucking genius.
Hot, panting breath that carried the unmistakable scent of alcohol wafted over her face. Squinting against the hurricane of air, she saw the lion staring down at her with serious, yet slightly unfocused amber eyes.
“Get off of me,” she said calmly, even if part of her wanted to demand he shift and fuck her. Now.
He didn’t go away. In fact, he put his big paws to either side of her shoulders, effectively caging her in between his limbs. Her heart thundered as he lowered his head. Just when she thought he was ready to shift and take care of the need burning through her, he licked from her chin to her forehead, his rough tongue abrading her skin.
“Ew! That’s disgusting!” This was not what her pussy had hoped for when she opened the door.
She tried to roll away from him, but he caught her shoulder with his paw and ran his velvety muzzle along her cheek. The rumbling purr that vibrated from his chest rattled her bones. The coarse hair of his mane tickled her face and neck as he continued rubbing against her like a giant kitten.
His tongue snuck out, lapping at the side of her neck. It was one of her sensitive spots and she jumped with a giggle. Shit. She was supposed to be some badass cop and she was letting some strange cat tickle her.
“Stop it,” she ordered in a quivery voice he paid no mind to.
With his scent surrounding her, Daisy’s body heated until it felt as if she’d burst into flames. Her heart thumped. Oh God, she’d just spent hours talking herself out of doing something stupid like throwing herself at him and now he was in her house licking her. She panted as he went for the hypersensitive spot behind her ear.
Instinct demanded she participate in this madness. She reached up to the warm body hovering over her. The instant she touched his velvety coat, his fur faded away leaving nothing but warm, golden skin behind. Paws became hands on either side of her and the mane disappeared, but the slightly rough texture of his tongue remained as he came down on top of her.
“Oh God,” Daisy gasped when he tested her skin with his teeth.
“Ram.”
She shook her head as the light coating of hair on his chest abraded her nipples, sending electric shocks straight to her aching core. “Huh?” she mumbled when his tongue danced over her collarbone.
“My name is Ram.”
“Uh-huh, do that again.”
His hot breath washed over her skin as he repeated the little love bite at the base of her throat. “I’d like to know your name in return,” he whispered against her skin.
Shivering from his erotic bite, Daisy whimpered her name. If he didn’t get this show on the road, she’d come without him and then she’d do as bears did and hibernate the rest of the night.
A big, hair-roughened knee slid between her thighs. Thighs that parted without any hesitation, making Daisy’s face burn with embarrassment. Was she so easy she’d just let some strange cat fuck her in the entryway of her home?

REVIEW

He’s not about to give that up. Ever.

Shifter books are great –humor in a shifter book is even better. Daisy is the local deputy –bear shifter.  Ram is the lead singer in a heavy metal band playing their last concert in a small town because their manager lost at the poker tables and couldn’t pay off his debt.  The band is surprised when the concert is a hit.  When the kids rush the stage, Deputy Daisy steps in to help hold the kids back.  Well you all know what happens when two mates find each other so “Let the fun begin”.

Ram, by the way, is a Lion. Daisy had one serious relationship and that LION burnt her pretty bad. Lions have prides and she has NO intentions of sharing the man in her life.  Lions are out no matter how ready she is to settle down and start a family. So Daisy makes sure she bolts before the concert is over. Ram doesn’t want to settle down in a small town anyway. So… what does he care if the deputy with a great ass takes off. But…. His lion has another idea.  Let the fun begin.

I have to say that I was a little leery when I started the book.  I am not one to be turned off by a “fuck” here or a “shit” there, but when it is in every paragraph it can get to be a little bit much for me.  I was surprised though because after a chapter it didn’t matter much to me and just became part of each character’s personality. Daisy was good – Ram was great – and then there is Daisy’s parents!!!!! Hilarious!!

RATING
I have to give this book 4 chocolate dipped strawberries!!! Great job Danica – I look forward to reading book 2!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Danica Avet was born and raised in the wilds of South Louisiana where mosquitoes are big enough to carry off small children and there are only two seasons: hot and hotter. With a BA in History, she figured there were enough fry cooks in the world and decided to try her hand at writing.
Danica is the lucky pet of a compulsively needy dog and two cats. The pitter-patter of little feet has been known to make her break out into a cold sweat.
Writing is how she gives the voices in her head a way out. When she isn’t writing, working or contemplating the complexities of the universe, she spends time gathering inspiration from her insane family, reads far more than any sane person would want to, and watches hot burly men chase an oblong ball all over a field.

What's this AUTHOR'S Guilty Indulgence?

I’m Guilty.
I’m a writer. I adore creating stories and putting characters into impossible situations. But there’s one thing that constantly battles against my need to write.
It’s reading.
Yes, I’m a reading junkie. I’ve been a big fan of reading since I was young. My first book was about a firehouse cat instead of a firehouse dog. Even back then I liked the idea of oddball characters. My joy in books has only increased with time, but my love affair with romance started when I was thirteen. My aunt’s neighbor had about 500 Harlequin romances she was giving away and I was the lucky recipient. Oh, my joy knew no bounds. I read those books over a three year period. I’d sneak my novels into my textbooks, read by projector light, read on the bus on the way to school, and while waiting for a ride after band practice.
My senior year of high school, I was on a first name basis with the librarians, spent more time at the independent bookstore than I did anywhere else, and I was going through twelve books a week. I was a reading machine. College slowed me down a little, but not much. Reading is what kept me sane when it looked as though I wouldn’t graduate. *cough* It was my escape when my brain was filled with information I’d never use again.
Now that I write, I have to share my reading time with my creative time. I still read as much as possible and will go through seven books a week, sometimes rereading so I can avoid decimating my bank account. Heh.  Reading is my drug and I don’t think I’ll ever get enough of it.

BOOK TOUR: His Forbidden Submissive

Hola, Lovelies!

I'm so honored you stopped by to learn a little about me and my newest release His Forbidden Submissive. This was such a fun (and sexy!) story to write, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. ;-)

I'd also like to thank my wonderful hosts for having me here. You so totally rock!

Now on with the show, LOL...

What's my indulgence?
You mean aside from reading and writing scorching hot books? *wink* That's easy...

Starbucks!!

Mmm...

I swear their venti skinny cinnamon dulche lattes will be my downfall. The new cool lime refreshers aren't half bad either. I'm gonna go into serious debt if I don't get my addiction under control, but unfortunately, Starbucks yumminess is what my Muse needs to become creative.

Ugh.

If I don't give my Muse Starbucks, she doesn't give me story ideas. It's really sad, LOL. I've tried brewing coffee at home, but it's just not the same. I even got a French coffee press, and while it really reduces the bitterness of the coffee, it doens't give my Muse the same kick in the creative ass that Starbucks does.

My family teases me because half the baristas at MY Starbucks know me by name and drink. I walk in and they're all like "Hey, Brandi! Want your usual?"

It's sad. I know. If there was a Starbucks Annonymous, I'd totally be there every meeting, LOL.

What about you guys and gals? What's your indulgence, naughty or not? Dirty minds want to know. ;-)

Later, Lovelies!
~Brandi

BLURB
To find happiness, she must do something she swore she’d never do again.

Let a man control her.

After beating cancer, Vivian goes on a mission to cleanse her life. First on the list, kicking her cheating, controlling husband to the curb. Second, discovering the answer to a question that’s been haunting her. Is the love she harbors for Brock, her bad-boy brother-in-law, genuine or a chemotherapy-induced illusion?

Brock loves a woman he can’t have. His brother’s wife. To claim her would be a betrayal. He knows loving her is wrong but he can’t help it. So when circumstances bring them back together, he can no longer deny his forbidden attraction, and they unite in a fury of passion, lust—and bondage.

But Vivian isn’t prepared for Brock’s BDSM lifestyle, no matter how sexy he looks with his tats and leathers. After ten years with a controlling husband, submission is terrifying—but so is never being with Brock again. Submission or freedom? No matter which she chooses, her life will change forever.

EXCERPT
Joy and pain lodged in his chest like the blunt blade of a butter knife. The memory of that time, of Vivian’s uterus riddled with cancer brought back dark memories.
Oh god no. The cancer! Was that why she was here?
He grabbed her by the arms. “Is it the cancer? Is it back? Has it spread?” He’d shake the damn truth out of her if he had to.
“No, Brock,” she whispered, her voice so soft, her smile reassuring. “I’m not here because the cancer’s back.”
“No cancer?” He just had to make sure.
“None whatsoever.”
“Oh thank god.” Relief practically leveled him and he crushed her against him, clung to her, partly to feel close to her, but mostly to keep from falling flat on his ass. Holding her felt as damn natural as breathing. Her petite body fit perfectly against his. He never wanted to let her go.
As if he needed another sign he was screwed.
He tightened his arms around her, bent close and buried his nose in the crevice of her neck. Her spicy, floral scent combined with the sensation of having her in his arms again. The dual stimuli rocked his resolve, threatened to overwhelm his better judgment.
“Brock,” she whispered. “Brock.” Deep. Husky. Wanton. Seductive. Each word described the timbre of her voice. Each word doused gasoline on the fire raging below his belt.
Christ.
He pulled back, pushed her to arm’s length. Time to move their reunion along before he did something he’d regret.
Like her.

REVIEW

His Forbidden Submissive was like drinking a Venti Mocha Latte - a total indulgence.

The author gives readers the perfect blend of sexy and romantic, friendship and secrets. I really liked Brock and Viv with their rich history that made it easy for readers to connect with. Their angst with discovering if the one you love loves you back was only usurped by their off-the-charts chemistry. Sex scenes moved us through the logical progression of their relationship which was already established and made the quick pace more plausible.

At time, Viv's compulsion to run from her problems frustrated me but considering her background, it was understandable. And the interaction with her friend added dimension to her character readers would've missed otherwise. Viv was in the perfect stage of her life to try the new experiences Brock wanted to show her which lent itself to her willingness to step outside of her comfort zone.

Brock made Viv comfortable. He was her rock but it was Brock who needed Viv to give him direction. Though he's just like the cover depicts, he was slightly less confident than I like in my heroes. It was a good combination for Viv though because she might have not responded so well to him otherwise.

Like the Mocha Latte, His Forbidden Submissive was sweet as chocolate but it also had that bit of espresso bite to it too. Totally yummy and so deserving of our ULTIMATE INDULGENCE BOOK AWARD.
