Catch A Ghost REVIEW

Catch a Ghost (Hell or High Water #1) by S.E. Jakes is an intense story with volatile, alpha males that will leave your head spinning.

Everyone knows that Prophet—former Navy SEAL, former CIA spook, full-time pain in the ass—works alone and thinks only about the trouble he can cause. But his boss, Phil Butler of Extreme Escapes, LTD., has just assigned Proph not only a new partner but also a case haunted by ghosts from Proph’s past. Suddenly, he’s got to confront them both head on.

Tom Boudreaux—failed FBI agent, failed sheriff, full time believer in bad luck—is wondering why the head of a private contracting firm has hunted him down to offer him a job. Still he's determined to succeed this time, despite being partnered with Prophet, EE, LTD’s most successful, lethal, and annoying operative, and even though the case is also resurrecting his own painful past.

Together, Prophet and Tom must find a way to take down killers in the dangerous world of underground cage matches, while fighting their own dangerous attraction. And when they find themselves caught in the crossfire, these two loners are forced to trust each other and work together to escape their ghosts . . . or pay the price.

REVIEW
I've read S.E. Jakes before - Men of Honor series - and have always been swept away by the action and intensity. I knew right away that I had to read the first book in her new Hell or High Water series. Sure enough, it was fast-moving, heavy-hitting, and adrenaline-driven. What killed it for me was the ending that left me saying "What The Hell?"

I met Prophet as a secondary character in the Men of Honor series and was thrilled Jakes decided to give him his own series. He's, of course, hotter than hell but is also angry as hell. I couldn't wait to find out why but after finishing the book, I'm still scratching my head at that question.

When Prophet is assigned Tom as his partner, they immediately hate and want each other at the same time. Neither of them are happy about it so things are intense from the beginning. And the book is off and running with its intense action as the embark on their first mission. The chemistry is off the charts. The sex between them is freaking hot and intense. The physical attraction is undeniable but both have secrets from their pasts that keep them emotionally distant.

The secrets are also kept from the reader. It was a bit like those Bourne movies except I couldn't keep shaking my hubby to get him to explain something to me... lol! The subplots are engaging but they also confused me. Cillian, Tom's next mission and his sixth sense, John's story? I have more questions than I do answers and maybe... hmm... maybe that's what the author wanted. Well, if Jakes was going for the ultimate mind trip, it worked. I'll be grabbing the next book the moment it comes out because I NEED ANSWERS!! Lucky for us, we don’t have long to wait. Long Time Gone, book two, is set to be released in October.
