I’m off today! I’m off today! WOO HOO! Spending the day with my kids. Today is their last day of school. Next year my daughter will move to the middle school and my son will be a 1st grader. Where did time go? Went to DC with her on her class trip and had a great time. Checked out a couple of monuments, visited the Smithsonian and had lunch at the Hard Rock CafĂ©. Took the kids by the Dept of Justice and the FBI building. I figure, get to know my kids now before they take over the world. LOL.
As you can tell I’m holding true to my word and hammering my newly revised to be read list. I have also held out on buying that second Chronicles of Nick book but I’m not sure how much longer I’m gonna last!
City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare
The Mortal War is over, and sixteen-year-old Clary Fray is back home in New York, excited about all the possibilities before her. She's training to become a Shadowhunter and to use her unique power. Her mother is getting married to the love of her life. Downworlders and Shadowhunters are at peace at last. And—most importantly of all—she can finally call Jace her boyfriend.
But nothing comes without a price.
Someone is murdering Shadowhunters, provoking tensions between Downworlders and Shadowhunters that could lead to a second, bloody war. Clary's best friend, Simon, can't help her. His mother just found out that he's a vampire and now he's homeless. Everywhere he turns, someone wants him on their side—along with the power of the curse that's wrecking his life. And they're willing to do anything to get what they want. Not to mention that he's dating two beautiful, dangerous girls—neither of whom knows about the other one.
When Jace begins to pull away from her without explaining why, Clary is forced to delve into the heart of a mystery whose solution reveals her worst nightmare: she herself has set in motion a terrible chain of events that could lead to her losing everything she loves. Even Jace.
It has been a good while since I finished the last book in this series and picked up this one (the newest). I was so proud of myself! I remembered what was going on and where the last story ended and where this one picked up. Yeah me! I also have a confession to make. I listened to the first three on audio book. GASP! I know, I know I feel shameful. I just can’t get into audio books(except Harry Potter). I wish I could. I mean I have a commute it would be good for my to be read list but I just don’t feel it. But I did enjoy listening to these.
First off this book had a super good balance of story threads. It has the right amount of Jace and Clary drama, the right amount of Simon and the right amount of let’s save the world stuff. I’ll admit I was having some Accidental Demon Slayer flash backs between Lizzi and Dimitri. Jace was doing the whole I love you more than life but I can’t be with you for your own safety. Then Clary is doing the ,what does he see in me drama llama. It was like Lizzie and Dimitri all over again (have I ever told you my love of Dimitri? I mean Greece!) I really enjoyed Simon getting to come to the front of the story. He’s had major roles in all the books but he really shines in this one. I mean how often do you have your life taken from you and turned into a vampire that can be in the sun and on top of that you’re walking around with the Mark of Cain on your forehead? He has a lot of issues to deal with. Like having two girlfriends, controlling his “hunger” and telling his mom he’s a vampire. The sad part for Simon is that although he’s surrounded by his friends he’s still alone. He’s a vampire hanging with the Shadowhunters…..
I give this book 4 chocolate dipped strawberries and a cool electrum whip like Isabelle has. I’ve been asking for a flame thrower for years now and Jenn and Tyra both told me NO. Can you believe that? But Tina pointed out that I could torch my dress or God forbid my shoes so now I’m all about the electrum whip. Thank Tina!
PEACE!
