New to the Kim Dare
series, The Rawlings Men, I started with book one: Handcuffs and Leather. I was enticed a bit by the idea of series
with eight M/M BDSM novellas following men from the same extended family. Unique,
for certain. Each of the Rawlings men has some type of connection with the
police force, i.e. constables, forensic psychologists, police advisors, etc. Combined
with these men also being Dominants, how could it get yummier?
In Handcuffs and
Leather, young and submissive Constables Hadley meets his Master, psychiatric
Michael Rawlings. After taken
hostage, Hadley wants to put it all behind him but he’s been dealing with all
the crazy publicity, hasn’t slept since that night because of some strange
dreams and now he’s being sent to see a psychologist. The last thing Hadley
needs is a shrink and his bewilderment only compounds when he realizes that he’s
being sent to Dr. Rawlings who he’s had a crush on for months. In fact, he’s
the star of his dreams.
Through the
counseling, his feelings for Dr. Rawlings come out. They explore a relationship
– which was bit too much sex, not enough emotion – and the two men heat up the
pages. It was a nice story though a longer book would’ve given me more time to
become invested in the characters.
The only part that weirded me out a bit is that it seems (after now reading a few) that they tend to be attracted to younger men and the author refers to them often as “his younger lover” or otherwise references their age difference. I just didn’t want to be reminded! Regardless though the books do deliver hot and steamy so do try the series out and enjoy.
Be aware: While the books can be read as stand-alone titles,
they are best read in order as part of the full series.
