The Wolfing Way by Susan Laine

The Wolfing Way, Susan Laine, Dreamspinner Press
Lifting the Veil #1
Kris Ellis thought that the time of arranged marriages was long past—but that was before the Great Unveiling revealed creatures of myth living among humans. Now a routine medical test has determined that Kris has a mate, a werewolf named Rafael King.
Kris is fresh out of college and has plans for his life. None of them include being tied forever to someone he’s never met. But then Rafe calls him, and Kris starts to reconsider. After all, what must it be like to wait for your soul mate for two hundred years?
Rafe is patient, strong, and kind, not to mention attractive. True to what Kris has heard about mates, sparks fly the second they meet. But Kris and Rafe are very different, and the werewolf way of life is dangerous. Is the fight for love really worth it?

With one knock on the door Kris Ellis's life has changed forever. Three weeks away from graduating from college with his whole life in front of him, Kris learns that he is the mate....to a werewolf. Refusing to forced into a relationship built on hormones and DNA and not on choice or love he won't listen to anything the "marriage broker" has to say. But after a late night phone call from his "mate" Kris finally agrees to meet Rafael at his ranch and see what happens.

The premise of this book was very interesting. Whenever a human over the age of 18 has blood work done it is automatically entered into a database to see if they are a mate to a member of the "Other" community. At that point a third party contacts the human and informs them of their mate status and then basically brokers a marriage between the two individuals. This is the first book in the series and I felt like there needed to be a bit more explanation on how and why the unveiling took place and who and what species are considered others.

The problem that I had with the book had more to do with the fact that I just didn't really like the two main characters. Kris comes of as a brat and flip flops back and forth on what he wants. I understand being shocked at first but his reasoning just didn't fit right with me. Rafael just come across as weak. Every time something happened he had tears in his eyes. Now I don't mind a man that is sensitive but he is supposed to be a werewolf and I just wanted to say...COME ON MAN UP!

RATING: 3 Chocolate-Dipped Strawberries This book was given to us by Dreamspinner Press. Many thanks.
