Deja Blog
No you are not caught in a blog version of Groundhog Day, I am just blogging two days in a row this week.I will not however be talking about the same book I have a brand new book to talk to you about today...or at least the next book in the Immortals After Dark series. There are exciting things happening in my household this week, my daughter is getting ready to go to Florida on a school trip and this will be the first time that she has traveled out of state without my husband or I. She is very excited and bouncing off the walls, I however am incredibly nervous and will probably have to be medicated next week. I know she will have a fabulous time and it will be an experience she will always remember but DANG that's my baby and she is going far far away for 5 days!!! Ok enough of my whining lets get to what you all really come to our site for....YUMMY ALPHA MALES AND THE VALKYRIES WHO LOVE THEM!! No Rest for the Wicked is the third(second full length) novel in the IAD series and it is one of my favorites of the series because you have the Talisman Hie, think the Amazing Race for immortals. The inclusion of the race I think makes for some of the best parts of the story.
No Rest for the Wicked, Kresley Cole, Pocket Star, October 2006
Centuries ago, Sebastian Wroth was turned into a vampire -- a nightmare in his mind -- against his will. Burdened with hatred and alone for ages, he sees little reason to live. Until an exquisite, fey creature comes to kill him, inadvertently saving him instead. When Kaderin the Cold Hearted lost her two beloved sisters to a vampire attack long ago, a benevolent force deadened her sorrow -- accidentally extinguishing all of her emotions. Yet whenever she encounters Sebastian, her feelings -- particularly lust -- emerge multiplied. For the first time, she's unable to complete a kill. The prize of the month-long contest is powerful enough to change history, and Kaderin will do anything to win it for her sisters. Wanting only to win her, forever, Sebastian competes as well, taking every opportunity -- as they travel to ancient tombs and through catacombs, seeking relics around the world -- to use her new feelings to seduce her. But when forced to choose between the vampire she's falling for and reuniting her family, how can Kaderin live without either?
Kaderin the Cold Hearted made the biggest mistake of her life on a battlefield several hundred years ago. In a moment of mercy she spared the life of a vampire and then watched that same vampire kill both of her sisters moments later. To say she blames herself would be an understatement. Since that time she has lost all of her emotions and has never shown mercy towards a vampire again....until she meets Sebastian Wroth. When she travels to his castle to kill him she realizes that not only is she his Bride, the one woman who can make his body come alive again, he makes her feel and she cannot have that. So she runs.
Sebastian is the younger brother of Nikolai and was turned by him against his will. Since that time he has been living in seclusion just hoping to die. Until he meets Kaderin and his life is once again turned upside down. He will do anything to have her. He follows her to a secret meeting where he learns that she will compete in the Talisman Hie, a race for immortals, and against her wishes joins the race thinking he can help her and in turn win her.
Each task of the Hie that is completed earns the competitor points and takes place all around the world, who ever has the most points wins and Kaderin has NEVER lost a race. This time around it's personal for her...the winner gets a key that allows them to go back in time.
Once again Ms. Cole has a winner, I loved the interaction between Sebastian and Kaderin. I think my favorite parts are the snarky conversations that happen between the different factions. The race and the various competitors make for a quick read and it does a great job of introducing and setting up the next several stories. It was entertaining and made me laugh out loud and for me that's the mark of a good book. I give no Rest for the Wicked 5 chocolate dipped strawberries and I am soo looking forward to next Tuesday when Dreams of a Dark Warrior is released.
