A.D.D. Release Day

Today is one of those Tuesday release days where I don't know where to turn first. There are all of these pretty shiny new releases and I just want to read them all at once, alas I can't, so I will just have to take them one at a time. March looks like it's going to be a great month and not just because both Jenn and I have birthday's this month...yes it is the Month of Jenn and Tyra again...but because it is a HUGE month for new releases from some of my favorite authors. I am sooo doing the Snoopy dance right now just thinking about them. Today I am chatting about the latest Immortals After Dark book from Kresley Cole. If you are a regular follower than you know I am a BIG fan of the series and Regin's book is one that I have been looking forward to for a while. Dreams of a Dark Warrior did not disappoint.

Dreams of a Dark Warrior, Kresley Cole, Pocket, February 2011

Murdered before he could wed Regin the Radiant, warlord Aidan the Fierce seeks his beloved through eternity, reborn again and again into new identities, yet with no memory of his past lives.
When Regin encounters Declan Chase, a brutal Celtic soldier, she recognizes her proud warlord reincarnated. But Declan takes her captive, intending retribution against all immortals—unaware that he belongs to their world.
Yet every reincarnation comes with a price, for Aidan is doomed to die when he remembers his past. To save herself from Declan’s torments, will Regin rekindle memories of the passion they once shared—even if it means once again losing the only man she could ever love?

This book starts with a flashback to when Regin first meets Aidan The Fierce. She has just left Valhalla and is trying to find Lucia who has left to marry a mortal, but Regin needs some help. Aidan is a berserker, a fierce warrior in service to the God Woden, who will grant Aiden immortality after he wins his 200th battle. Upon seeing Regin and her glowing skin Aidan claims that she will be his wife, Regin is not so sure of this. Aidan falls in love with Regin and vows that he will make her love him too. Before that happens and before Aidan can win his 200th battle he is killed by a vampire, as he is dying he vows that he will find a way back to Regin and makes his second in command, Brandr, swear that he will protect Regin until he can. So starts the curse, Aidan is reincarnated three more times and each time he finds Regin and kisses her he starts to remember who he is and is immediately killed.

Now here we are in the beginning of the Accession, and Regin knows that Aidan has been born again but has no idea who he is, and she would like to keep it that way. She just doesn't want to go through finding him and then losing him all over again. When Regin is taken hostage by the Order she realizes that Declan Chase, the leader, is Aidan.

Declan, when a teenager, was attacked and almost killed by a faction of the Lore and has made it his life's work to destroy all of them. He has never hesitated in his quest until he meets a Valkyrie that makes him question everything. Soon after meeting Regin he starts to have dreams about her that seem so life like and makes controlling his berserkerage even more difficult. Declan is supposed to torture Regin to try and get information from her and while he does it he can't figure out why he feels so bad about if after. Regin decides to kiss Declan to bring his memories back just so she and her friends can escape the island prison where they are being held.

Just about the time that Declan finds out who and what he is, an angry Goddess who is looking for her ring, destroys the compound and all Hell breaks loose. Now two sworn enemies with baggage like you wouldn't believe will have to try to work together to survive.

This book just never stops, it is a fast paced roller coaster that all you can hope for is to stay on for the ride. It is full of the snarky, funny dialog that I love about these books(Do you need to burp your worm?)with a great love story thrown into the mix. I would not have expected less for Regin's story. While there is a deja vu feeling about this book, because some of what happens in the compound was covered in the previous book, it does move the story line along and brings some old favorites, Lothaire, back into the light. It also introduces us to some new characters that I can't wait to read more about, like Thad and Natalya. The only complaint that I have is that there was not enought NIX! So we are now at DEFCON:Regin and I can't wait to find out what happens next in this fabulous world that Ms. Cole has created. I give Dreams of a Dark Warrior 5 chocolate dipped strawberries!

  1. Mmm... mmm... this series gets better and better. I love how no two stories are the same - there's no simple formula. Each couple takes their own journey to their HEA. And no other series has such great secondary characters.
