Satisfying Conclusion to Swept Away @JenniferHaymore #REVIEW

Swept Away Volume Four by J. Haymore
The thrilling conclusion to the Swept Away series!

Ethan has dropped his final bomb, and I’m done. I’m finished. I can’t do this anymore.

I had no idea of the danger I was stepping into. That she was one step ahead of me at every turn. And that I was about to be in a desperate fight for my life.

Warning: Swept Away is a 4-part serial. This story is messy and twisted and very, very sexy. It is not for people under 18.

REVIEW: Now that I've read the full serial, I can say without a doubt that this story is a good read. It's well crafted with multiple threads to keep readers' interest. I knew after the third installment, there was something explosive to come and I wasn't disappointed. The conclusion, while I thought it could've been longer, was satisfying.

See my full review of the rest of the series here.

Texas Fall by @Rjscott_author #REVIEW #CONTEST #ULTIMATEINDULGENCE

Texas Fall, RJ Scott
Texas #6
Jack is focusing on building an equine therapy school for children with special needs and works hard along side his normal horse training and breeding program. He and Riley have settled into a softer, quieter, kind of family life, but that doesn't stop them using the barn with the door to the fullest!

But the lull comes before the storm.

Riley and his new assistant travel to Laredo, and across the border into Nuevo León as part of an exploratory team and things very quickly go to hell. Riley is caught in some serious Cartel problems and suddenly everything Jack holds dear is threatened.

Add in Vaughn and Darren's story, revisiting Robbie, Eli, Liam and Marcus, alongside Sean and Eden and the wedding that never was, and this story promises you everything you want from a Texas series book.

RJ Scott has been writing since age six, when she was made to stay in at lunchtime for an infraction involving cookies. She was told to write a story and two sides of paper about a trapped princess later, a lover of writing was born.

Excerpt
“You can’t hide the whole night,” Riley said from behind him. Jack turned to face his husband, leaning back against the stable door and waiting for the lecture. Riley was happy as a pig in shit right in the middle of it all: juggling babies, catering, socializing, and hell, everything that Jack was avoiding right about now. “People asked where you were,” Riley added.

Riley sure looked good tonight, his blond hair just this side of bed-head spiky, his long legs in black pants, the dark green shirt so perfect against his warm skin tones, and his hazel eyes sparkling with enthusiasm for life. Sexy. Very sexy, all toned and slim and hard and hot. Jack cleared the thoughts of kissing the life out of Riley from his head. He’d need all his faculties to deal with Riley when Riley wanted him to go back inside and host the party.

Anyway, he was suspicious that anyone really worried where he’d gone. “Who asked?”

Riley stepped right up into his space, close enough so that Jack could inhale the scent of his man. The combination of familiar citrus was underscored by deeper notes of mulled spices from the kitchen and some punch concoction Eden had made.

“Actually, no one asked,” Riley admitted. “Josh mentioned that he was impressed you’d lasted an hour.”

Jack huffed a laugh. He was surprised his brother hadn’t come out and hidden right next to him. Seemed that enjoying socializing skipped the male Campbell line entirely.

“So,” Jack began slowly. “What are you doing out here?”

Riley placed his hands on Jack’s hips, then slid his fingers through belt loops to tug Jack away from the door and flush up to him.

“I was asking myself,” he explained, “just where would my husband be when it’s only ten at night and he was looking for peace. I tried everywhere.” He pressed a gentle kiss to Jack’s lips, then smiled down at him, that few inches in height he had just enough to force Jack to lean his head back a little. “Actually that’s a lie. I looked in the twins’ room, checked in on Max, then came here.”

REVIEW:
I'm always happy to revisit the Double D and the people who live and love there. Scott is wonderful at blending passionate love stories with a strong sense of family. From the beginning this series has centered around Riley and Jack but is has grown to include so many more.

This addition picks up not long after Texas Christmas and we are dealing with the aftermath of the attack on Liam. Liam will have to face his worse nightmare, but for the first time in his life he isn't alone.

Just when things start to settle down on the ranch, Riley heads south of the border to check out the possibility of a new business venture when things break very bad. The aftermath has the ability to strengthen their relationship or damage it forever. Dealing with physical scars will be much easier than dealing with the emotional ones.

I will never get tired of reading about these two men and the life that they are building. From the moment that I opened Heart of Texas I knew that this would be a series that I would go back to again and again. Each addition brings more and I can just not get enough.

Start from the beginning of this epic saga and just keep coming back for the passion, family and love.

Audiobook #Review @Dreamspinners Blood & Thunder (THIRDS 2) @CharlieCochet

Blood & Thunder (THIRDS #2)
Unabridged Audiobook

Written by: Charlie Cochet
Narrated by: Mark Westfield
Time: 7 hrs 50 mins

When a series of bombs go off in a Therian youth center, injuring members of THIRDS Team Destructive Delta and causing a rift between agents Dexter J. Daley and Sloane Brodie, peace seems unattainable. Especially when a new and frightening group, the Order of Adrasteia, appears to always be a step ahead. With panic and intolerance spreading and streets becoming littered with the Order's propaganda, hostility between Humans and Therians grows daily. Dex and Sloane, along with the rest of the team, are determined to take down the Order and restore peace, not to mention settle a personal score. But the deeper the team investigates the bombings, the more they believe there's a more sinister motive than a desire to shed blood and spread chaos.

Discovering the frightful truth behind the Order's intent forces Sloane to confront secrets from a past he thought he'd left behind for good, a past that could not only destroy him and his career, but also the reputation of the organization that made him all he is today. Now more than ever, Dex and Sloane need each other, and, along with trust, the strength of their bond will mean the difference between justice and all-out war.

REVIEW:
Well, what are you waiting for, Charlie? Keep writing! I want more, and more, and more... this is like one of those addictive tv series that you wait all week for. Then as soon as its over, you count down until the next week. In a mishmash of romantic comedy and superhero manga, the books hook any reader that gets through the world building details in book one. Now the action steps up and the characters shine even brighter as readers feel as if they've made new friends. Oh yeah, and the sex is freakin hawt!!

This series has a new fan in me!

Audiobook #Review @Dreamspinners Hell & High Water (THIRDS 1) @CharlieCochet

Hell & High Water (THIRDS #1)
Unabridged Audiobook

Written by: Charlie Cochet
Narrated by: Mark Westfield
Length: 10 hrs and 6 mins

When homicide detective Dexter J. Daley’s testimony helps send his partner away for murder, the consequences - and the media frenzy - aren’t far behind. He soon finds himself sans boyfriend, sans friends, and, after an unpleasant encounter in a parking garage after the trial, he’s lucky he doesn’t find himself sans teeth. Dex fears he’ll get transferred from the Human Police Force’s Sixth Precinct, or worse, get dismissed. Instead, his adoptive father - a sergeant at the Therian-Human Intelligence Recon Defense Squadron otherwise known as the THIRDS - pulls a few strings, and Dex gets recruited as a Defense Agent.

Dex is determined to get his life back on track and eager to get started in his new job. But his first meeting with Team Leader Sloane Brodie, who also happens to be his new jaguar Therian partner, turns disastrous. When the team is called to investigate the murders of three HumaniTherian activists, it soon becomes clear to Dex that getting his partner and the rest of the tight knit team to accept him will be a lot harder than catching the killer - and every bit as dangerous.

REVIEW: A little bit romance, a little bit comic book/ superheroes, and a pinch of the Agents of Shields bundled into an exciting and suspenseful story. Despite moments when there seemed to be too much detail on the training/ fighting thing which really isn't for me, the plot was tightly written. The characters were quite unique, particularly Dex. I was glad when his true personality came out once he found his place in the Thirds after the book opening under such a difficult period for him. The science fiction feel of a world with an alternate breed of beings added to the complexity and created a world unlike any other I had previously read.

Listening to the book on audio was a nice alternative but sometimes proved difficult in pulling in all the details. I slowed it down and was careful to listen carefully. This is not a story you can miss anything! Everything that happens has a point and the narrator brings in the emotion -tension and passion- of the story.

Teach Me by @authorsloanj

Teach Me, Sloan Johnson
Two words stripped Austin Pritchard of the privileged life he’s used to. The moment he uttered the words, “I’m gay,” he realized there is no such thing as unconditional love. Now, he’s gone from traveling the world with his family to living on the streets trying to figure out how he’s going to stay in school.

A chance opportunity changes everything. Austin impresses the foreman and lands a job, but even more, he catches the eye of David Becker, who is determined to teach him that true love doesn’t come with strings.

The only thing David had as a child was love. His family struggled to keep food on the table and a roof over their heads. That has driven him to stay focused on his goals; become a tenured professor at a university and save enough money to build a home of his own. It’s not until he sees an insecure college student working on his new house that he realizes that he hasn’t planned on someone to share his life with. He’s about to learn that everything he’s already accomplished is nothing compared to the task of making Austin see that he is worthy of love.

REVIEW:
Sloan Johnson is a new to me author but she is one I will definitely be seeking out more from. Teach Me is an emotional, heartbreaking, and beautifully told story.

Austin is destroyed. He has been kicked out and completely abandoned by his family. So when the school year ends he packs whatever his dufflebag and backpack will carry and walks away. Since he has no place to go he ends up taking shelter under a bridge where he meets two people that will help him survive the next several months on the streets.

David is a professor who has worked hard for everything he has. When he meets Austin doing day labor on his homes construction site he sees something in the younger man that reminds him of himself. What starts out as a helping hand could develop into something so much more if he can just get Austin to trust him.

This book made me so sad. Not just that a family could do this to one of their own, but that Austin didn't have any friends that he trusted or could to turn to for help. The fear and uncertainty that Austin feels read true. The more you learn about his home life it's a wonder the kid could function at all. But you see how he used it as a motivating factor for the rest of his life. There were times where his actions frustrated me, but I had to stop and remind myself that he was a 20 year old that had everything materialistic handed to him most of his life, but had no emotional support.

I appreciated that the author took the time to let the relationship develop and didn't make the sex as a cure all for everything else. Even after they were together they still had their problems and had to learn how to deal with them instead of running away. Something they were both guilty of at times.

There are some great secondary characters that really help define and develop both MC's. The MC's come from two very different backgrounds. Austin grew up with money but was constantly berated and told he wasn't good enough while David grew up poor but always knew he was loved.  You also have the established life long friend on David's side and the strangers that helped you in your time of need friends for Austin. The street kids sub-culture added a lot of depth and layers to this story.

If you like stories that develop at a realistic pace and have strong emotions, both the good and the bad then Teach Me needs to be added to your TBR list.

Light My Fire, by G.A. Aiken @NetGalley #REVIEW #ULTIMATEINDULGENCE

Light My Fire, G.A. Aiken
Dragon Kin #7
The trouble with humans is that they're far too sensitive. Forget you put a woman in the local jail for a few months--and she takes it so personally! And yet she is the one trying to assassinate the queen. And now I'm trapped with Elina Shestakova of the Black Bear Riders of the Midnight…gods! That endless name!

But what am I to do? I am Celyn the Charming with direct orders from my queen to protect this unforgiving female.

Even more shocking, this unforgiving female is completely unimpressed by me. How is that even possible? But I know what I want and, for the moment, I want her. And I'm sure that she, like all females, will learn to adore me. How could she not when I am just so damn charming?

REVIEW:
The Dragon Are Back, The Dragons Are Back!!!

After a 2 year hiatus Aiken is back and it's like she never left. I for one have missed the Cadwaladr Clan and all of their kin.

Best name for a character EVER!!! Elina Shestakova of the Black Bear Riders of the Midnight Mountains of Despair in the Far Reaches of the Steppes of the Outerplains. How could you not love that name!! Well of course if you are a dragon you don't have time to stand around listening to that mouthful especially since the woman is there to kill your Queen. So Celyn does what his Queen commands and puts the human female in prison. Of course he mocks her terribly before he does this and then promptly forgets about her....for eight months!

Elina knew this mission was a death sentence but figured this was as good a way to die as any. She doesn't exactly have a death wish, but her life with her tribe isn't really worth fighting for. So when the dragon Queen Rhiannon and crazy human Queen Annwyl the Bloody ask her to return to her tribe and arrange a meeting to talk about making an alliance she feels like she finally has a purpose. Then they ask that dimwit male dragon that threw her in prison to accompany her.

Celyn is always a loyal dragon who does what his Queen commands but this is going to far. He has to travel to the Steppes with the insulting female with the never ending name. Seriously, the things he has to do for family.

Well of course since this is a Dragon Kin book much hilarity, fighting and sex ensues and a good time is had by all....ok maybe not by all, but the people...err dragons that you care about have a great time. There are several different story lines running through out the book that if not tied up, set up the next book and leave you wanting more.

All of your favorites are back and sniping at each other in the way that only family can. The kids are growing up fast and really coming into their powers, and not just the twins and Rhianwen but all of the half dragon children. I think my new favorites and Dagmar and Gwenvael's children. They are going to have their hands full with that brood.

This series has never missed a step and I for one hope it continues for years and years, just a little closer between books.

Found Her Family Friday

A Tale of Two Dragons by G.A. Aiken

Braith of the Darkness likes going through life unnoticed. Not an easy task for a She-dragon of royal descent. But the evil plots of her father are turning her quiet, boring life upside down, and she has now become the enemy of the most vicious queen her kind has ever known. But for once, Braith won't have to fight alone. Not when the warrior dragon of her dreams is willing to risk everything to save her neck.
Addolgar the Cheerful wishes he could say he's helping the pretty royal strictly for honorable reasons--but he'd be lying. It's not his fault, though! He didn't tell Braith of the Darkness to have the most delicious tail he's ever seen! Yet before Addolgar can get his very strong claws on that tail, heads are going to roll. Just hopefully not theirs. . .

WOW! It feels like forever since I have read or written anything. Actually, it has been awhile. I was having one of those drowning in life moments but all is good, I have my floaties back on and I'm ready to keep roll'n. As I was flipping thru my Kindle trying to decide what I felt like reading I realized OMG I am behind on my dragon series! How did I let that happen? I went in immediately and purchased it (I accidentally used Jenn's account, sorry). Within a few pages my happiness returned and all was right with the world. If you have never read this series you need to move it to the top of your to be read list. Every book is fabulous. You know how in some series you like all the books but some are better than others? Well this series is not one of those. All the books are fantastic. It has my favorite element when I'm reading a series….characters from past books. I love to keep up with other characters and hear what is going on with them and how they still fit.

So, with all that being said….it's cold outside and you have nothing else better to do so you might as well start this series. Go ahead, you know you want to.

I give this book and series 5 chocolate dipped strawberries.

PEACE

SWEPT AWAY by @JenniferHaymore #REVIEW

Author Jennifer Haymore has released a four-volume romantic serial during October and November. It sexy, explosive and ultimately a romantic gem. Here is the summary of volumes one, two and three...

Swept Away Volume One

He is everywhere. He surrounds me, wends his way under my skin. I can’t escape his strength, his intensity, his presence.

I’m trapped.
There’s nowhere to run.
Nowhere to hide.
But even if I could escape... would I be strong enough to leave?

I needed something — something big — to get myself out of the rut I’d fallen into after the car accident that killed my sister. This sailing trip was meant only to mark a new chapter in my life. Until Ethan Williams stepped on board.

Ethan radiated confidence. His darkly handsome good looks and ocean-blue eyes mesmerized me. But it was the way he looked at me that drew me in. He wasn’t looking at my past or at my scars, but the real me behind all that baggage I was trying so hard to leave behind.

But Ethan had secrets—dark, dangerous secrets. I was trapped in the middle of the ocean in a tangle of lies, sex, and violence. The problem was, I was happy to be trapped forever...if it meant I could have him.

Swept Away Volume Two
Ethan Williams is the worst man for me. The dangerous choice. The choice most likely to hurt me.
Ethan will never give me the long-term happiness I yearn for.

Of course I choose him. He’s the bigger risk. The man I know very little about. The man who’s almost guaranteed me that he’ll do nothing but hurt me. That’s the one I want.

What the hell is wrong with me?

I was falling in love with Ethan—even though he was going to walk away from me forever in less than three weeks. But I wasn’t going to think about that. I’d enjoy this time we had together on the open ocean, then, once we got to Hawaii, I’d let him go. No regrets.

But Ethan’s secrets were deeper and darker than I could have ever imagined. I’d put my trust into someone who gave me almost nothing of himself.

And if I wasn’t careful, his secrets could kill me.

Swept Away Volume Three

It’s yet another bomb. The past week has been full of them, exploding when least suspected. This one, though…this one shatters me. Like all the other bombs have combined into one nuclear missile, and Ethan has just rammed it into my chest.

Survival was what should’ve been foremost on my mind. But Ethan’s lies consumed me instead. I trusted him, and the devastation of his betrayal cut so deep, I was surprised I wasn’t bleeding.

REVIEW
After a bit of a slow start, I found myself swepted away into the mystery and intrigue surrounding not only Tara but Ethan as well. With glimpses of the "villain" and insight into their psyche, the suspense was revved up a notch and while I wanted nothing more than to cheer this couple on, I kept wavering. Maybe there was someone better for her than this man we don't know enough about but maybe not. By volume three, I couldn't stop reading. (Hubby made dinner that night - gotta love him!)

The story is well written with multiple threads all waiting to be tied up in volume four because even though we have some answers, there's still someone explosive sure to happen in the final installment. I can't wait to read the conclusion!

Reviewing a serial in parts is often very difficult so I'm "rating" the first three-parts together. I haven't gotten my hands on the fourth part yet but as soon as I do, I'll let you know what I think!

Author's Warning: Swept Away is not for people under 18.

Blue Mountain by @CardenoC #REVIEW

Blue Mountain, Cardeno C., The Romance Authors, LLC
Pack #1
Exiled by his pack as a teen, Omega wolf Simon Moorehead learns to bury his gentle nature in the interest of survival. When a hulking, rough-faced Alpha catches Simon on pack territory, he tries to escape what he’s sure will be imminent death. But instead of killing him, the Alpha takes Simon home.

A man of action, Mitch Grant uproots his life to support his brother in leading the Blue Mountain pack. Mitch lives on the periphery, quietly protecting everyone, but always alone. A mate is a dream come true for Mitch, and he won’t let little things like Simon’s rejections, attacks, and insults get in their way. With patience, seduction, and genuine care, Mitch will ride out the storm while Simon slays his own ghosts and Mitch’s loneliness.

REVIEW:
This is the first book in a new series from Cardeno and it's off to a great beginning.

Simon is exiled from his pack at 13 for being different. He is a male Omega and therefore deemed unworthy. His mother chose to go into exile with him rather than abandon him and their life is not easy. They return to Blue Mountain because Simon's mother is sick and wants to see her home one last time. The greeting that Simon gets is not a welcoming one.

Mitch is the enforcer of the pack. While strong enough to be an Alpha himself he would rather support his brother than lead. When members of the pack show up at the Alpha's house with blood on them speaking of a strange wolf on pack lands Mitch gets the first whiff of the wolf that will change his life.

Having been abused most of his life Simon has learned to fight first and listen later. Accepting the fact that the Alpha wolf that has come to find him is going to kill him Simon is surprised to later wake in a bed with no clothes on. That is the beginning of the misunderstandings between the two men.

If the two can learn to communicate and Simon can learn to trust they might just have a chance.

This book like all of the stories from this author was an easy enjoyable read. The abuse that Simon suffers was difficult to read. But the dynamic between the two MC's was quite comical at times and help to lighten what could have been a very sad book. I am interested to see the direction this series takes and if there are more male Omega's out there in hiding.

If you are looking for a shifter book with love laughter and acceptance then look no further than Blue Mountain.

Soldier On with @SydneyALogan @RockStarPRLC

Soldier On by Author Sydney Logan

Synopsis
Will his call of duty break both their hearts?

Losing her father in Desert Storm has left Stephanie James with a bitter soul when it comes to the military. As a college senior juggling a full course load, Steph's only goal is to graduate with honors at the end of the semester. She’s focused, determined, and a firm believer in all work and no play. Then she meets Brandon Walker at a New Year’s Eve costume party. Despite his disguise, Steph finds herself attracted to the camouflaged soldier who curls her toes with a scorching midnight kiss.

Brandon is an engineering major and ROTC student from the hills of Kentucky. Growing up as the son of a major general has given Brandon firsthand knowledge of the struggles military families sometimes face. Now that his father’s memory is fading, Brandon is even more determined to make his dad proud and graduate as an officer in the United States Army. Then he meets Stephanie, and suddenly, his focus is less on his military service and more on the pretty brunette who has stolen his heart. When he becomes aware of Steph’s resentment toward the military, he worries their relationship is doomed.

Steph unexpectedly finds herself in need of a roommate. Brandon volunteers, thinking it’s the perfect opportunity to show her the real Brandon, before he’s forced to admit the truth about his four-year obligation to the army. Afraid that living together will be a distraction to graduating on time, Steph establishes house rules—rules they both find difficult to obey.

When faced with the realization that she's fallen in love with a soldier, can Steph’s wounds from the past be healed with love in her present . . . and in her future?

Excerpt
“Hey, you.”She blinks a few times before her face breaks out into the most beautiful grin I’ve ever seen. With a sweet laugh, she grabs me, pulling me down on top of her.For the first few minutes, all we do is stare at each other. Maybe because we can. Or maybe because we’re looking for little things we might have missed while we were apart.“Your hair’s longer,” I whisper.“Yours is shorter. I didn’t think that was possible.”She sighs softly, her eyes flickering to my mouth.“So, Lieutenant Walker, are you gonna kiss me or not?”“I’m thinking about it.”“You think too much.”She rolls us over, and we both groan as she covers her body with mine. Steph kisses me, and from the very second her lips touch mine, with all their frantic urgency and sweet warmth, I know in my heart that something has changed. Our kisses have changed. Our touch has changed. We’ve changed. There’s a craving there. A deep and powerful yearning that wasn’t there before and can only come from spending time apart. It makes us kiss one another a little slower, hold each other a little tighter, and love each other a little more than we did just twelve weeks ago.Steph suddenly lifts herself up, straddling my waist and sliding her hands along my stomach. Another flash of lightning in the sky shows me what she’s wearing. It’s my Princess Bride T-shirt, the same one I was wearing the day we met in class.“Nice shirt.”“Thanks. I stole it from your closet before you left. I’ve slept in it every night.”“Thief.”With a sly grin, she leans down and kisses me again.“You’ve stolen my clothes. Stolen my heart.”Steph smiles against my lips.“There’s something else I want to steal,” she whispers. I slide my hands along her back, pulling her closer to me as I raise myself up. Wrapping her arms around my neck, she melts against me when I bury my face against her neck.“I’ll give you anything, Steph.”
“Anything?””Whatever you want.”I lift my head and find her eyes, deep and dark and full of tears. All of her earlier playfulness is gone as she places her palm against my cheek.“I want your last name.”

 About Sydney Logan
Amazon best selling author Sydney Logan holds a Master's degree in Elementary Education. She is the author of three novels - Lessons Learned, Mountain Charm, and Soldier On. Sydney has also penned several short stories and is a contributor to Chicken Soup for the Soul.

A native of East Tennessee, Sydney enjoys playing piano and relaxing on her porch with her wonderful husband and their very spoiled cat.

Q/A with Sydney

Where do you find your inspiration?
People and music, mostly. Sometimes, like in the case with my novel Soldier On, I found a picture that served as inspiration and later, as the cover of the book.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
The most challenging thing is balancing writing and promotion. I’m not very good at it. It was easier when I only had one book, but the more I write, the harder it gets to juggle it all. I’m not complaining, because I love it, but that’s the biggest challenge for me.

What are your current projects?
I’m getting ready to release a holiday collection of short stories titled Once Upon a December. It will include two previously published Kindle short stories along with a new short story. It will release on November 28. I’m also working on my fourth novel.

Tell us about your first book. What would readers find different about the first one and your most recent published work?
Lessons Learned is actually my debut novel, but it was published two years ago with a small indie publisher. I’m now self-publishing it with a new cover. However, my most recently published novel is Soldier On. I think readers would find that my writing style is a little more laid-back now. I don’t agonize over every single word like I did with my first book.
I’m much more comfortable and confident in my storytelling.

Does music play any type of role in your writing?
I’m heavily inspired by music and lyrics. However, I can only write with instrumental music. I can’t listen to lyrics and write at the same time. I have to be careful about the instrumental music I choose because it can really influence the mood and tone of my story. I also create YouTube playlists for all of my stories.

Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your life?
There are little bits of me in all of my lead characters. In Lessons Learned, Sarah is a teacher like me and struggles with anxiety and panic attacks, both of which I’ve battled. In Mountain Charm, my second novel, Angelina lives in the mountains and loves bluegrass music. That’s me. In Soldier On, Steph loves 80s music. That’s totally me. :) Also in Soldier OnBrandon’s dad suffers from Alzheimer’s. That experience is based on the life of my friend, whose Mom was dealing with the disease at the time. My friend told me I should write a book about it, so I did.

What books have influenced your life most?
Anything by Nicholas Sparks, John Grisham’s A Time to KillHarry PotterTwilight, anything by Judy Blume, but especially Forever.

Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?
He’s not so new anymore, but John Green is a new favorite. I love books that rip your heart out and make you think, and The Fault in Our Stars certainly did those things to me. T.M. Franklin is an indie author who writes YA really well. My students love her MORE trilogy.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
My readers are the best! They’re always so excited to read something new from me, and I couldn’t be more grateful for their support.

Do you have a special time to write? How is your day structured writing-wise?
I don’t have a schedule, really. I write when I get the chance, which is usually at night, on weekends, or during school breaks. My colleagues ask what I’m doing for Spring Break, and my answer is always writing. :)

Why did you choose to write Romance stories?
I chose romance because I’m a happy-ever-after kind of girl. I especially love first-love stories, which is why I’m considering a YA novel next. I’ve written both contemporary romance (Lessons Learned) and New Adult (Mountain Charm and Soldier On).

What is for you the perfect book hero?
My perfect book hero is a man who adores the woman he loves. The “nice guy” is somewhat of a myth in contemporary romance. Most romantic heroes are alpha-males, but I want women (and teens) to know that there are nice guys out there. They really do exist!

When and why did you begin writing?
I’ve written songs, poems, and short stories since I was a kid, but I only started writing professionally about three years ago. I had posted some stories online when one of my readers contacted me. She just happened to be in acquisitions at a small, indie publisher (the original publisher of Lessons Learned).  She encouraged me to submit something, and that’s how Lessons Learned was born.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
When I was in high school, I had a poem published in one of those Who’s Who student journals. I also won 1st runner-up in a local writing contest. I actually considered majoring in journalism in college, but I decided to teach instead.

Will you write more about these characters?
I don’t think so. I think I left them in a good place. Everyone got their happy-ever-afters, even if it wasn’t quite how they imagined it. That’s life. :)

After The End @KiddingAlex AUDIObook #REVIEW @Dreamspinners

After the End
Alex Kidwell, Author
Gregory Salinas, Narrator

LISTENING TIME: 7 hrs 43 mins

BLURB
After Quinn O'Malley loses his partner of ten years, Aaron, to cancer, he withdraws from everything. In a single tragic moment, he goes from an artist with a loving partner and a future to an uninspired comic book store owner who barely exists. He hides behind a shield of grief, refusing to let Aaron go. He feels guilty for even trying to imagine a life apart from what he'd had.

The charming party planner Quinn's best friend insists he meet on a blind date isn't someone he's ready for. Brady Banner walks into Quinn's small frozen world and turns everything upside down. For years, Quinn has focused on endings, but as Brady begins to thaw his existence, Quinn realizes that one moment can do more than stop a life - it can also start a new one.

REVIEW
Filled with the angst of overcoming loss and moving on through life, this love story clutched at my heart. Quinn struggled after the loss of his longtime partner but when he meets Brady, he's finally tempted to find happiness. The author smoothly juggled both love stories so that readers felt the connection between Quinn and Aaron as well as his new love for Brady. There was the perfect blend of reflection back on Aaron and Quinn's hopefulness for a bright future with Brady. The secondary characters, friends and family, added dimension to the men and rounded out the story.

I enjoyed this story as an audiobook. The narrator used his voice to express the emotions behind the words. At one point, it was almost as if he was sighing and crying along with me as I listened. This highly emotional, angst-filled story is a great listen.

Excerpt
The door slammed shut, and a moment later the coach swayed off. The air in the small compartment quickly turned hot and humid. “Did you enjoy your card game?” Justine asked. “Were you always such an avid player? I suppose your company this evening inspired you.” Brandon hissed in air and pulled her into his lap with one swift movement. He tugged her legs over his so that she straddled him. Her chest tightened under the fierceness of his eyes and his firm grip. That demanding touch lit a fire inside her, a fire she barely understood. He wrapped a hand around her neck and pulled her down close taking her mouth in a hungry kiss, his tongue searching for hers, lashing, inflaming her further. Her fingers gripped the thick lapels of his great coat. His hands traveled down to her hips shoving her into position over him, and a sharp breath escaped her when she felt the pressure of his hardness right between her legs, just where she ached for him. The jostling of the coach pushed her against him roughly, and she let out a small cry as the friction between them multiplied her need. He let out a heavy breath as he slipped one hand under her dress over her bare flesh. Her body jerked in his arms, and a low cry escaped her lips as his fingers found her. “Yes, there you are,” he breathed, his voice thick in the darkness. He knew her body very well, and she immediately flooded with heat under his insistent touch. He buried his face in her bosom, his other hand sliding down her rear. Two of his fingers slid inside her, and she shuddered in his arms. “Brandon…” “You’re soaked.” He let out an expletive-filled groan. His fingers claimed her depths as his thumb stroked over her, teasing, rubbing. Her arms clutched his neck and shoulders, her thighs tightened, and she came apart sharply in his grip, letting out a low moan. “You liked that, eh, Lady Graven?” His smug, harsh tone struck her like an icy blast of winter air. Was that scorn, a taunt? Had he just proven a point? Her heart shrank. He had marked her like an animal in heat, showed her who was her master, proved to her to whom she belonged. She twisted back from his chest, but his strength was too much for her. His one hand fisted tightly in her hair, and he brought their faces inches apart. “Are you punishing me?” she asked against his lips, the back of her throat stinging. “Are you trying to teach me a lesson?” His eyes creased. “Punishing you?” “Yes, yes, punishing me.” “What the devil are you talking about?” “I told you you’d hate me for this marriage, you’d resent me.” Her hands pushed against his shoulders. “Tonight you saw what’s been denied you, and you’re angry.” His body hardened under her, his fingers gripped her bare thigh. “I am annoyed about Charles and Andrew,” Brandon said, his other hand releasing its tight hold on her hair. “But I don’t hate you.” His hands slid over her hips and pressed into her rear. Her breath caught in the darkness. The gentle yet carnal possessiveness of that gesture only set off a spiral of heat in her chest. “I don’t think I could ever hate you, Justine,” he whispered.

Bad To The Bones #REVIEW @LaylaWolfeAutho

Bad To The Bones by Layla Wolfe is another gritty tale in the Bare Bones MC series.

Knoxie Hammett has been The Bare Bones' tattoo artist for years. He's just drifted through life, living it large and performing in their Triple Exposure films, recovering from a divorce he never wanted. Suddenly Knox has a reason to live and to Prospect for the outlaw motorcycle club.

He'll need their help to rescue the lovely Bellamy Jager from the jaws of the warped, cutthroat cult leader who has been holding her hostage for all her adult life. To the neglected, abused teenaged Bellamy, living in the desert canyons off stolen food and time, the sanctity of the ashram looked like a safe zone. But her haven turned to hell and she was drugged and abused, ignorant of any other way of life.

Knoxie will need every one of his Bare Bones brothers and every ounce of bravery he can muster. To save Bellamy and her white slave sisters from the twisted Swami, he’ll need to pull off the most daring heist of his life to prove to the club and the world that he’s…BAD TO THE BONES

REVIEW
Book three in Wolfe's Bare Bone MC series stays true to the gritty MC world but takes on the issue of cults. In the author's usual candor, readers watch as Knoxie rescues Bellamy from a life of cult slavery. The beauty is in how Bellamy saves him right back. For years, he's wandered without committing to the club but finally, the time has come for him to be a full MC member. With the club members making cameos, it's like coming home to this dysfunctionally wonderful family. It's not just Knoxie who's BAD TO THE BONE!

Protector of the Alpha by @ParkerWAuthor #REVIEW

Protector of the Alpha, Parker Williams
Shifting Needs #1
Adopted at an early age by a wealthy family, Jake Davis has always seemed to have an easy life. Even in college he was blessed with good grades and an apparently clear path to a pro football career. Good thing his best friend keeps hanging around to keep his head from getting too swollen.
Zakiya Incekara has always been...odd. Being fluent in six languages and having a flair for international cooking should open the world to him, but those skills leave him isolated.
When Jake sees Zak for the first time, with water beading down his slender form, something inside him shifts, and it hungers for Zak. To have him. To claim him. And Jake knows that whatever it is, it won’t be denied.
When they are approached by a man who claims knowledge of a secret past they share, Jake and Zak are thrust into a world they would never have believed existed. The forests of Alaska might seem an odd place to find your destiny, but these men will meet the challenges head on, as they learn that sometimes you have to make sacrifices to be Protector of the Alpha.

REVIEW:
This book takes all of the tropes of a paranormal shifter story and tweeks it. So no one is really who you expect them to be which makes for a great read. I am a fan of shifter stories, I love that there is a cosmic reason that that is the one person for you. That undeniable attraction and feeling of satisfaction of finally finding the "one".

Jake Davis is BMOC, he is the starting quarterback for the football team, good looking and smart.  You would think that this would make him kind of a jerk, but it doesn't because he is a genuinely nice guy.  Everything just seems to come easily to him but the one thing he really wants, Zak.

Zak is testy, prickley, a smartass. But you are ok with that because that's just him. He even speaks in a completely different cadence than everyone else. He is attracted to Jake but he doesn't know why, and so he fights it, and that just makes it funny.

So while these two are circling around each other sexually, their world is being turned upside down with some pretty incredible revelations. How they deal with it will make or break not only their lives but all the lives that they are eventually responsible for. There is a big bad out there that is stalking them and working together is their only chance for survival.

This is the first book in the series and as such has a lot of back story and world building happening. So be prepared to take in a lot of information. I for one am a big fan of that type of world building so I enjoyed it but some people might feel like it's too much. There is one FABULOUS secondary character who is not only the comic relief but also the voice of reason through out most of the book. Pretty sure his world is going to be rocked even more in the next installment so that should be an interesting read.

This is a strong first book that hooked me on the characters and I will definitely be back for more.

Excerpt:

Jake's hand was rough, his skin dry. Zak loved how his fingers gripped tightly, but not so much that it hurt. Jake said nothing as they walked along the streets of the campus. There were few people around, but Zak did not care if everyone was watching them. He was confused as to his attraction to Jake, but it was something he could not deny.

The soft jazz music poured from the door of the pub when Jake pulled it open. Jake's hand on his lower back urged him inside. Zak sniffed appreciatively at the scent of Cajun spices, no doubt from the blackened catfish special. His stomach protested, and he heard Jake snicker, but he could not seem to raise the ire he should. Jake escorted him to a booth and allowed Zak to sit back against the brushed leather.

“Two dinner specials coming up,” Jake said brightly.

Zak gazed at Jake's hulking form as it moved away, marveling at the sinewy grace as he dodged patrons and servers. It was odd. He had never met anyone like Jake. He doubted there was anyone like Jake. He felt comfortable in his presence. Jake’s size did not intimidate him. In fact, that made him all the sexier. But his eyes were what made Zak melt into a puddle of goo. The way they twinkled in the dimmest of light. When Jake so much as glanced at him, Zak felt he was the sole thing Jake saw.

Jake turned from the bar, and Zak watched as the bright smile turn into a sneer. He dropped the tray, the catfish crashing to the floor, before he stalked to where Zak sat. Jake grabbed a man, probably about forty, by his throat and pushed him against the wall.

“You don't so much as breathe near him,” Jake snarled.

The man looked cool as he smiled and croaked out. “You are everything I had heard you would be, and more, my lord.”

Shifting Hearts by @Silvia_Violet #REVIEW

Shifting Hearts, Silvia Violet
Wild R Farm #6
After experiencing what happens when someone you love walks away and never looks back, Brandon decided love was for fools. Then he spent a summer with Zach. He struggled against feelings that grew every time he and Zach were together, telling himself they were just having a fling. When Zach confessed his love one hot summer night, Brandon panicked. He scoffed at Zach and made sure he walked away first.

Three years later, their paths cross again when Zach becomes the vet at Wild R Farm where Brandon works. Brandon realizes his feelings haven’t changed, but Zach treats Brandon with scorn despite Brandon’s every attempt to show Zach he’s no longer the self-centered man he used to be. When a night out ends with Brandon driving Zach home, confessions are made on both sides, and hope begins to build in Brandon’s heart.

REVIEW:
Redemption and forgiveness are the themes for this installment of the Wild R Farm series. Like most of the books in this series one or more of the MC's are damaged and looking for a new start.

If you have read the other books in this series, than you have met, and probably hate Brandon as much as I did....yes that's right, did. Brandon was the epitome of the love em and leave em guy. He took what he wanted and then walked away and he didn't care who he hurt in the process as long as he got off. This book explains to us just why Brandon is such an asshole, and once you know it will help with the forgiveness. Thankfully it doesn't come easily and he has to work for it, and honestly you are not sure he is going to find it.

Zach has his moments of douchery too. He doesn't come out of this as the wronged innocent because of how he handles some of the situations.

Everyone has a small part to play in the story line and yes we get to spend some time with my favorite Tristan (YAY) so the book reads longer than it is. Pretty sure we have also met the MC's for the next book in the series and I hve to admit I am very curious about Martin!!

A solid addition to this series and I will definitely be back for more.
