The strength in Riley and Jack, my Texas boys.
Welcome to my mini author tour, thank you to NDulgent Bloggers for having me…
When I was at the UK meet I was told by readers on more than one occasion that they thought I just wrote paranormal, or I just wrote contemporary. Or that they knew about Texas, but had never heard of the Sanctuary series. So I came up with this idea… highlight a few different books, or series, and add in some cool prizes and maybe readers might find something new from me.
Today I wanted to focus on the strength and vulnerability in my men, in particular in Jack and Riley.
I love men, always have done! The men I write are always strong even though it isn’t at first really obvious. They may be damaged or carry the burdens of what they have seen or done but at the core of it they have strong hearts that they are able to open up to falling in love. My heroes, SEALs, cops, fireman, millionaires, all have flaws but what I love most about writing is finding their partners who see the other side of them, the vulnerabilities that make up us all.
In The Heart of Texas, Riley and Jack are my heroes. Jack on the surface is steady, and solid as the Texas ground he stands on, but under the tough strong exterior he has a vulnerability that makes it easy for Riley to swoop in and blackmail him. Family. Jack’s love for his family makes him vulnerable but also is his greatest strength. Riley’s family don’t make him strong. His heart is pretty much dark until he meets Jack and it is Jack who brings out the strength inside him.
What kind of heroes do you like? Strong? Vulnerable? Sad? Angry?

My goal is to write stories with a heart of romance, a troubled road to reach happiness, and most importantly, that hint of a happily ever after.
I've has been writing since age six, when I was made to stay in at lunchtime for an infraction involving cookies and the mixing bowl. You can't tell a six year old not to lick the bowl!
I was told to write a story and two sides of paper about a trapped princess later, a lover of writing was born.
As an avid reader myself, I can be found reading anything from thrillers to sci-fi to horror. However, my first real true love will always be the world of romance. I love my cowboys, bodyguards, firemen and billionaires (to name a few) and love to write dramatic and romantic stories of love and passion between these men. (Yum)
With over 60 titles to my name and counting, I am the author of the award winning book, The Christmas Throwaway, which was All Romance Ebooks best selling title of 2010.
I'm also known for the Texas series charting the lives of Riley and Jack, and the Sanctuary series following the work of the Sanctuary Foundation and the people it protects.

I enjoy books when the very strong and macho man can be made to show his vulnerable side it makes such a great read.

I love Bodyguards Inc. series, can barely wait for book 3. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI love a hero who is strong, masculine and alpha, yet knows when to be tender, loving and caring. Thank you for the chance.

I have loved this series from the beginning mainly because it hasn't been an easy path. They've had their problems and setbacks but their love keeps them strong. It truly is inspirational.
ReplyDeleteI love Cowboy and his Hetboy. They complete each other, they are a team. Riley is just as stubborn as his husband Jack. You give them the true human quality of a heterosexual realtionship unlike some authors who want them to give all rainbows and sunshine to there characters, you make them everyday believable.
ReplyDeleteLove the real heroes, the ones that aren't perfect, that have a few flaws. Oh and I love all of your series. Just need more books in each...see how easy to please I am :)
ReplyDeleteHi RJ, I am a huge fan of your books, slowly working my way through your various series. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteLove Riley and Jack!
ReplyDeleteHeroes have to have a vulnerability or a 'bad' trait/background story to make them real - too much goodness is unbelievable for me!
I love this series and really enjoy Jack and Riley as a couple. I also really enjoy all the side characters and couples as well.

I don't have a preference about how the hero starts (although I don't love to start with a sad hero). I love the growth of the hero. I want him to end in a good place or at least be heading in a positive direction. jepeb AT Verizon (DOT) net

A multifaceted hero is always a plus!
ReplyDeletevitajex(at)aol(Dot)com
As the saying goes, everything is bigger in Texas - drama, angst etc.
ReplyDeleteI love heroes that have many different aspects of them that make them a hero!

I don't care if the MCs are strong, sad or whatever, as long as they feel real and there's a good plot
ReplyDeleteA multifaceted character always makes for an interesting read.
