Love's Design, RJ Scott
Bodyguards Inc. #5
Can Christmas be the time when Kirby finally stops running and allows himself to fall in love with the man who saves his life?

CIA Agent Stefan Mortimer is cooling his heels in the UK until he can go home. Taking on easy assignments with Bodyguards Inc. seems like a good solution to keep him sane. He's used to life throwing him curveballs, and it’s just another day at the office when he rescues Kirby Devlin and his niece and nephew. Now he has to keep Kirby and the kids alive and stay professional.

Kirby Devlin has one priority; keeping his small family safe. On the run, and facing danger at every turn, Kirby finally runs out of places to hide on a snowy December day at an Edinburgh train station. Stefan comes to the rescue, saves him and the children. Is it possible that Kirby finally has someone to trust?

Now, if only it would be as easy for Kirby to trust Stefan with his heart.

REVIEW:
Love's Design is a solid addition to one of my favorite series. Scott's characters come to life on the pages and once again give me the warm fuzzies.

Kirby's ragtag family ensemble will grab you by the heartstrings and not let go. The fear and distrust in all of their eyes, but especially Andy and Louise, made me want to hurt someone. The fact that Kirby can love at all is a miracle in itself once you learn his story.

Stefan was the perfect person to help this little family. Not just because he is a kick ass man but because he needed something to believe in and fight for.

Great story not just for Christmas but all year!

RATING 4 Chocolate-Dipped Strawberries. This book was given to us by the author. Many thanks.

Texas Wedding by @Rjscott_author @LoveLaneBooks #REVIEW

Texas Wedding, RJ Scott, Love Lane Books
Texas #7
Sometimes Riley and Jack have to be the ones to fight other people's battles and stand up for what is right.

Faced with the life changing prospect of a yes vote from SCOTUS on the issue of same sex marriage, Riley and Jack realise they have decisions to make. Add in some distressing family news and the very real possibility that old secrets may resurface, and this last book in the Texas series pulls together as many threads as the boys can manage to handle.

But through all the ups and the downs, children, family events, laughter, and tears, there is nothing as special as the forever love between these two men.

REVIEW:
I have said from the beginning that this series reads like an episode of Dallas in the best possible way. Well this final book in the Texas series could have been a whole season. There is just so much going on and at such a fast pace that I was done with the book before I wanted to be.

I have come to love these characters over the last few years, and not just Jack and Riley but the whole Double D family. Their lives and loves have brought me many hours of happy reading and I am hoping that the spin-off will give us mini glimpses of them along the way.

Ms. Scott has created a dynasty worthy of the state of Texas and I for one know that my copies will be read again and again.

So, if you haven't picked up this series now is a great time to start, but be sure to set aside many hours because you will not want to put them down once you get started.

Lillian Francis
An avid reader, Lillian Francis was always determined she wanted to write, but a 'proper' job and raising a family distracted her for over a decade. Over the years and thanks to the charms of the Internet, Lillian realized she’d been writing at least one of her characters in the wrong gender. Ever since, she’s been happily letting her ‘boys’ run her writing life.

Lillian now divides her time between family, a job and the numerous men in her head all clamouring for 'their' story to be told.

Lillian lives in an imposing castle on a wind-swept desolate moor or in an elaborate ‘shack’ on the edge of a beach somewhere depending on her mood, with the heroes of her stories either chained up in the dungeon or wandering the shack serving drinks in nothing but skimpy barista aprons.

In reality, she would love to own a camper van and to live by the sea.

EXCERPT
Preparing to ask the stranger his name, Eric opened his mouth to speak, when he was interrupted by a doleful bleat. Startled, he glanced over his shoulder, scanning the airfield expecting to find signs of a wayward sheep. The forlorn stuttering cry came again, and Eric whipped back round, suspiciously eyeing a crate that was securely strapped to the internal wall of the plane.

“Goat,” said the pilot—Eric had decided that’s what he was—as he came back down the ramp.

The deep timbre of that one word surprised Eric. It was rough and low, with an unfamiliar accent Eric’s subconscious demanded to hear more of. That wasn’t likely to happen, though, because the pilot was already surveying his cargo with his back to Eric. He bent to hoist a crate into his arms, leaving Eric to stare dry-mouthed at the enticing pull of khaki for several seconds. Then the pilot straightened and carried the crate into the plane.

Eric wondered if he should offer to help, but despite the ease with which the crate had been hefted into the air, Eric thought they would probably be too heavy and he didn’t want to make a fool of himself. Not in front of this man.

The blond wore the almost obligatory light khaki bush clothes similar to his own uniform The Foundation had provided. Eric hadn’t noticed a logo on his shirt, but he could hope. If this man worked for The Foundation, Eric could at least enjoy the view, since it was unlikely he was gay. He hadn’t even looked twice at Eric. Not that Eric considered himself drop-dead gorgeous or anything, but he was used to getting his fair share of interest back home in England.

Eric caught a glimpse of Akibo gesticulating wildly at the cab driver. His holdalls were piled at Akibo’s feet, Eric noticed thankfully. At least if the altercation didn’t go well and the cab driver took off, he wouldn’t abscond with Eric’s luggage.

The hollow echo of footfalls on the ramp drew Eric’s attention back to the pilot. Tiredness was pulling on Eric’s nerves, leaving him out of sorts, and the lack of conversation was doing nothing to ease his irritability.

Taking the bull by the horns, Eric graced the pilot with the brightest smile he could muster. “So, do you work for The Foundation too?”

“No.” The man’s stride didn’t even falter as he continued toward the next crate.

Not chatty, then. Downright rude, in fact.

The firm slap of a hand on his back caught him just off centre, almost pitching him forward, and Akibo’s fingers curled over his shoulder and squeezed.

“I see you’ve met Tyaan. Tyaan Bouwer. He’s the local freight pilot. He’ll run your supplies into the research station every week.”

It was almost as if the pilot finally saw Eric as anything other than an annoyance for the first time. Tyaan stepped toward him, straightening to his full height, and Eric resisted the urge to check out the breadth of his chest, instead raising his gaze the few inches’ difference in their height to meet Tyaan’s eyes head-on.

“Tyaan, this is Eric. Eric Philips. He’s the new researcher out at olifant velde.” Akibo turned back to Eric. “That’s the local name for your part of the reserve. It means elephant fields.”

“Howzit.” Tyaan stuck out his hand. Eric extended his own automatically, and Tyaan pressed their palms together, enveloping Eric’s fingers in warmth. He gave Eric’s hand a short, sharp shake before releasing him from the firm grip. “The elephant man, hey?”

Eric smiled. “I know I’m no oil painting, but I hope I’m not that bad.”

Tyaan’s top-to-toe appraisal was so fleeting that Eric thought he’d imagined it. An expression skittered across the pilot’s face. Interest, curiosity—Eric wasn’t sure. It manifested itself as a bright spark in his eyes and the faint quirk of his lips, as if he were biting the inside of his cheek. The look vanished before Eric could really work out what it meant, but the amber-coloured eyes still seemed to hold a welcome within them.

“Tyaan’s a man of few words, but you won’t find a finer bush pilot. He’s reliable too. He’ll never leave you wanting.”

Wanting. Despite the pilot’s brusque manner, Eric wasn’t surprised he already wanted to press Tyaan up against the shiny metal body of his plane.

“I’m going up front,” Akibo said, blissfully unaware of the thoughts rampaging through Eric’s head. At least Eric hoped that was the case, since he followed that statement with “Coming, Eric?”

In his dreams, maybe.

The Last Wolf @suebrownstories @LoveLaneBooks

Sue Brown – The Last Wolf (Sapphire Ranch Wolves - #1)
The only good predator is a dead one, as far as Joe Lowther is concerned.
That is until the day he shoots a wolf, only to watch the animal turn into a naked Callum Pope. Cal is being hunted by a group of humans who eradicate shifter packs for sport.
Joe makes a decision to help Cal and discovers a deeper connection with the young shifter. One which he’d like to explore. If they live that long.

Excerpt

Joe had seen the wolf for the first time the previous night, a fleeting glimpse of glowing eyes as it tracked a coyote across the paddocks of Sapphire Ranch. He’d been convinced his eyes were deceiving him because he knew there were no wolves in Texas.

“You sure it was a wolf? Are you sure it wasn’t a coyote? What did he look like?” Like all ranchers, his daddy hated predators, but he was peculiarly tenderhearted about wolves. Joe didn’t have the same warm fuzzy feelings. For him, the only good predator was a dead one.

“Four paws, big ears, long fangs. What do you think it looked like?” At his father’s scowl, Joe quit the snark. “I hope I’m mistaken, because if not, the next time I meet it will be at the end of my shotgun.” His father looked upset and Joe cursed himself for mentioning it. “I’ll deal with it.”

“I hope you’re wrong,” his daddy said, shifting restlessly against his pillows. He winced, the lines deepening in his face.

The Bodyguard Series by @Rjscott_author #REVIEW

Bodyguard to a Sex God
Bodyguards, Inc #1
Bodyguard Adam Freeman draws what everyone else thinks is the short straw at the convention for a procedural cop show - as bodyguard to TV actor Logan Brady. Or as the Internet has labelled him, Logan 'Sex God' Brady.

Logan is taking part in a convention at a London Hotel for his show 'Night Cop' and someone is threatening his life.

Adam gets more than he bargained for when his client combines coming out of the closet with them both trying to stay alive.

REVIEW:
This was a great first book in a series. I like a book that has that first strong attraction and then builds off the chemistry between the two MC's. They want each other but are both hesitant for different reasons. This book does a good job of establishing the world and introduces us to secondary characters that will keep me coming back for more.

Logan is in the closet like a lot of male lead actors in Hollywood. He has a hit show and isn't sure how his fans will react to his coming out but knows he needs to make some changes in his life.

Adam is just supposed to be the muscle for Logan at the convention but being an ex-cop he can't stop his brain from trying to figure out who Logan's stalker could be.

The author does a great job a throwing in some red herrings, so just when you think you KNOW who is sending Logan the nasty letters you find yourself second guessing your thoughts. Just the right amount of bait and switch with the crazy.

I for one can't wait to read more about the sexy men of Bodyguards, Inc!

The Ex-Factor
Bodyguards, Inc #2
When Bodyguard, Ben Collins, finds Daniel Lincoln in a room, hiding and hurt, he doesn't immediately think Daniel is the victim of abuse. Daniel is good at pretending and being a finalist in a TV singing competition he seems like he has it made.

But something about Daniel calls to Ben's need to protect and he hands Daniel a card to contact him if ever Daniel needed help. Abruptly, after one frightened phone call from Daniel, Ben is racing to Daniel's aid and what he finds is a horror he can't imagine.

Daniel is trapped in a relationship where anger and controlling hate are the only emotions he is given. When his boyfriend crosses the line and leaves Daniel vulnerable and broken there is only one man that he wants to call.

The sexy bodyguard who promised he could help him.

REVIEW:
Oh this author is good at tugging on my heartstrings. It didn't take me long before I wanted to protect Daniel as much as Ben. I appreciate when authors include family and friends in books not just people that might be the next couple, I feel it gives the book more depth and brings more realism to the story. Daniels family was so great once they knew what was going on.

Daniel's emotions are so very real especially his shame at what he sees as being less than a man. Ben is great at showing Daniel support but allowing him to stand on his own. It had to be very hard for Ben to step back once you find out about his past. The slow build to the relationship in this story was so needed and really gave you time to fall in love with the characters on their own and then together.

The teasers we get every time that Ross and Kyle are on the pages are fabulous. I know I am not the only one looking forward to their book and getting the story behind Bodyguards, Inc.

If you love to read about strong, protective men, then this is a series that should be on your TBR list!

Christmas Delights Anthology, Various Authors,  Love Lane Books

Love Lane Books is proud to present you with a collection of free Christmas stories to celebrate this special time of year.
With writing from a selection of new authors and some from authors you may already know.

REVIEW:

The Book includes the following stories:-

RJ Scott - Deefur and the Great Mistletoe Incident - Wonderful addition to the original story. I for one wouldn't mind reading more about Cameron and Jason...and of course Emma and Deefur!

Amber Kell - Christmas Tree Magic -
For fans of the Moon Pack series this is a sweet peek at how some of them will be spending holidays. I think the section with Farro and Kylen was my favorite. Kylen's take on Santa was hilarious!

Meredith Russell - Spiced Apple and Cinnamon - Keegan doesn't like waking alone, but his fireman partner has drawn the early Christmas shift. When Alex finally gets home Christmas can really begin.

Diane Adams - Christmas Lightning - As a transplanted to Virginia form California girl I have experienced snow now but not lightning snow...now I am going to be looking for it!

Kay Berrisford - Gifts from the Tree
- Kay Berrisford is a new author for me but I loved this story and thought the mythology was unique and the story intriguing!

Nicole Dennis - Christmas Promise - This wonderful story is the last in the book but so worth reading. It made me cry the hardest and left me feeling hopeful!

Caitlin Ricci - A Jaguar for Christmas - RAWR sexy nekkid man who can turn into a jaguar, and a bah humbug photog who needs some Christmas spirit!

John Wiley - Once you go Black Friday - A Black Friday pro and a Virgin experience the night together but walk away with more than great deals.

SA Garcia - Paid with a Full Moon - This was totally my "lampshade" story! LOL

A.T. Weaver - Josh's Christmas Angel - An emotional story about the strength it takes to open your heart a second time.

Valynda King - Christmas in Hawaii - Another new to me author whose story dealt with things we don't usually find in romance stories. I thought is was sweet and thoughtful and I would like to read more about how Coolidge deals with River's issues.

Christopher John - Two for Hooking - Julia Roberts eat your heart out! From a hook up gone terribly wrong to a Christmas Miracle! My new favorite hooker story. I would love to see a follow up to this on how well the coming out goes.

Francis Gideon - Mistletoe and YouTube - Matt and Aiden come up with a unique way to kiss under the mistletoe!

Allan Jay - Christmas Angel - Shaun just needed to open his eyes and see the angel in front of him!

Aisling Mancy - Joyeux Noel
 - I am loving all of the second chances stories and this was another winner.

Gary Hendrickson - Our Best Christmas
 - Sweet story and the epilogue was the best part!

Hollis Shiloh - The Christmas Mansion
 - This is a story that would have benefited with more. The character's were interesting just left a lot unexplained.

Tom Alexander - Ivy Park
 - Beautifully poignant story about a broken man and his struggle to find hope.

AJ Henderson - Christmas Reunion
 - Oh this one was just too short. I wanted to read more about Eric and Dillon....we were just getting to the good stuff!!!

Abigail Winters - Love Delayed
 - The ultimate second chances story, and another one that I was wishing for more.

JC Wallace - Waiting for Snow -
A beautiful story of strength and survival!

This was a fun anthology with some very unique, intriguing stories. As with any anthology some stories were stronger than others and editing mistakes stand out more in these shorter stories. I did find some beautiful writing and some authors that I will seek out more from.

RATING: 4 Chocolate-Dipped Strawberries.  This book was given to us by Love Lane Books. Many thanks.

Texas @Rjscott_author #REVIEW

A Series with as much drama as Dallas ever had!

The Heart of Texas, RJ Scott, Love Lane Books
Texas #1
Riley Hayes, the playboy of the Hayes family, is a young man who seems to have it all: money, a career he loves, and his pick of beautiful women. His father, CEO of HayesOil, passes control of the corporation to his two sons; but a stipulation is attached to Riley's portion. Concerned about Riley's lack of maturity, his father requires that Riley 'marry and stay married for one year to someone he loves'. Angered by the requirement, Riley seeks a means of bypassing his father's stipulation. Blackmailing Jack Campbell into marrying him "for love" suits Riley's purpose. There is no mention in his father's documents that the marriage had to be with a woman and Jack Campbell is the son of Riley Senior's arch rival. Win win.

Riley marries Jack and abruptly his entire world is turned inside out. Riley hadn't counted on the fact that Jack Campbell, quiet and unassuming rancher, is a force of nature in his own right.

This is a story of murder, deceit, the struggle for power, lust and love, the sprawling life of a rancher and the whirlwind existence of a playboy. But under and through it all, as Riley learns over the months, this is a tale about family and everything that that word means.

Review:
Let's be honest, the covers are what drew me to this series first. DAMN those are some fine men! And being the age that I am, I grew up in the hay day of Dallas, the original not the re-vamped series, and was completely addicted to the drama. Well let me tell you that the Ewings ain't got nothing on the Hayes! There is EVERYTHING in this book and if by some accident the author did miss something you can bet it will be in the the next one. I for one LOVED it and couldn't put it down.

Through all the drama and intrigue is a wonderful love story. Jack and Riley couldn't not have started out further apart but when they come together it is all kinds of hotness. A strong secondary cast that added so much depth and heart the story would not have worked as well without them.

Strong, stubborn, sexy cowboys....hot, carnal sex and that is a recipe for success!

Texas Winter
Texas #2
Riley’s past comes back to haunt him both professionally and personally.

His dead brother left more than just bitter memories for Riley to deal with. The FBI get involved and suddenly it is more than his good name that is on the line. Jack is always there for him but how much more can Riley’s husband reasonably be able to understand?

Especially when Riley finds out on his delayed honeymoon that he has an eight year old daughter he never knew existed...

Review:
It's been a crazy year for Jack and Riley and just when they think things are starting to settle down in comes the drama. And no these cowboys can't just have one emergency to deal with at a time, they have to have multiple irons in the fire.

Riley finds out he's a dad, which leads to some wonderful AWWW moments with the boys, and really solidifies them as a family.

Throw in the FBI and dicey oil deals and lets not forget that Jack's mom has started to date a much younger man!!! I really don't know how these men find time to visit their barn and get their sexy on, but thankfully they do.

Texas Heat
Texas #3
Against the backdrop of twenty half naked models on DD land, and in the midst of fighting the oil establishment that just won't give Riley a chance, Texas Heat is the story of one hot summer in Texas with a Gay Rodeo, humor, angst and a love between two men that just grows stronger every day.

Jack hires Robbie, a man recovering from a great loss, to be his right hand man. Meanwhile Riley's mischievous photographer friend, Eli, decides the DD is the perfect backdrop for a cowboy themed model shoot. Eli has secrets not even Riley knows about but despite what he is hiding he falls in lust with Robbie at first sight. Everyone except Robbie can see how perfect Eli would be for him.

What happens when secrets spill and lies are discovered? And just how far will Riley and Jack go to play matchmaker?

Review:
The cast of characters just keeps growing. While this book still centers around Jack and Riley and their ever evolving relationship we get a new romance in this book.

Robbie has come to the Double D (cracks me up every time that two gay men live on a ranch called the Double D) with secrets and hurt but he can't help but notice Eli.

Eli is a breath of fresh air on the ranch, because Lord knows things might have gotten quite if he hadn't shown up.

With fist fights, ex-boyfriends and a gay rodeo it's just another day in Texas. But the thing that always comes through in this series is the sense of family and how they are always stronger together. I love the relationship between Jack and Riley and the way that it seems to grow and mature but is still hot as hell.

Texas Family
Texas #4
Jack and Riley Campbell-Hayes begin a journey that will change their lives forever.

Set against the backdrop of the Double D, the cast of the Texas books face changes that won’t leave a single one of them untouched.

Jack and Riley want to extend their small family of three. Their first choice is surrogacy with Jack as the father and when all this begins smoothly both men can't help but contemplate at what point would things go wrong. After all, their lives are far from normal and nothing is ever smooth.

Add a small four year old boy in foster care into the mix and suddenly things become a whole lot more complicated.

Review:
Now you knew when Jack and Riley decided to expand their family they couldn't do it the easy way. When they chose to use a surrogate they get a little more than they planned for.

So between new horses to train and a house that needs to expand to encompass the quickly growing family, you would think that would be enough, and with some families it might but not the Campbell-Hayes family! We have more family drama with some PTSD that leads to a life altering event within the extended family, Jack's sister decides to try to have another child and a new hand has come to work on the ranch with secrets of his own.

But one thing that is never in chaos is the love between Riley and Jack. They are stronger than ever and have become one of my favorite couples of all time.

This series is high on drama and angst and all I want to know is when is the next one!

The next book in the series is Texas Christmas due out December 15, 2013.

RATING: 5 Chocolate-Dipped Strawberries for the series overall.  This book was given to us by the author. Many thanks.
