REVIEW: Well butter my butt and call me a biscuit....who knew a spanking story could explain the social scene of domestic discipline and make it not only easily readable but highly enjoyable?! I really enjoyed the build up of this story and identified easily with the feminist character Stephanie as she is introduced, rather abruptly, to the world of domestic disciple. Very different than standard BDSM stories, domestic discipline establishes a very different type of relationship - still regarding power and submission - but more about communication and domestic problem solving. Mark DeLuca is a very alluring character and it is hard to understand his need for this relationship evolution, but Cara Bristol does a lovely job digging into her story, taking the reader by the hand and allowing all to evolve an understanding. Not too clinical or bogged down in explanations of why and how, Body Politics focuses on the growth of two strangers who are perhaps more right for one another than either supposed initially. Of course, many of the blind daters out there would say their friend's know them best and viola! you have chemistry and romance, with a kink.
The irony of a feminist who has created a sheltering community for women who have been victims of domestic violence dating a police officer who enjoys spanking his lovers whenever they challenge him is established right up front. The secondary characters who follow our Stephanie down the spanking rabbit hole and help guide her on her way really give the story some added dimensions. When her work and personal lives collide, disaster strikes and tests the mettle of our newly minted couple - will the couple that plays together stay together? Finally, lest you think this is spanking only and not an erotic romance, the chemistry between Stephanie and Mark sizzles on the page and there are several scene that will have you fanning your face and blushing when your kids run past you, pulling you out of the moment.
